Asteria's POV
I rushed towards my brother as Alek's fist connected with his nose.
"Demi!" I shouted, my heart racing with fear.
"It's okay, princess. I'm fine," Demi reassured me, wiping the blood from his nose.
Alek's anger was palpable as he yelled at Demi, "What the fuck did you do?"
"I don't know what you're talking about!", Demi shot back
The tension between them was suffocating.
I intervened, "Demi, let's go home. You both can talk later when you're calm."
As we walked away, Alek's gaze lingered on Demi's broken nose, his expression unyielding. I whispered an apology, but he didn't acknowledge me.
In the parking lot, Demi told me to wait while he retrieved his car. Alone, I was struggling to hold back tears.
Suddenly, a hand covered my mouth, and I was pulled against a wall. The familiar scent of Alek's cologne filled my senses.
He slowly removed his hand from my mouth and traced his thumb on my lips.
"How can someone so innocent be a liar?", he whispered, his breath caressing my ear.
"I didn't lie, Alek. It wasn't my place to tell you", I tried to reason with him,
Alek's grip tightened, his voice low and menacing.
"But you still didn't tell me. You kept it from me, Asteria. You lied to me."
He didn't called me Angel....
I felt a stinging sensation in my eyes as tears welled up.
"I'm sorry, Alek. I was scared. I didn't know what to do."
Alek's expression softened for a moment, but then his mask slipped back into place.
"You're sorry? You're sorry for lying to me? For betraying me?"
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat.
"Yes, I'm sorry. I'll do anything to make it right."
Alek's eyes narrowed. "Anything?"
I nodded again, desperate to make amends.
Alek's voice dropped to a whisper.
"I want to hurt you, Asteria. I want to make you feel the pain you caused me."
I trembled in fear as he came closer, his eyes blazing with intensity. But before he could do anything, a girl's voice interrupted us.
"Baby, what are you doing here?"
Alek turned towards her, and I saw the same girl who had joined her father for dinner at our home months ago.
"Nothing, darling. Just playing with a plaything". Alek said so casually
Darling?
"Ohh. leave this plaything then and come to your fiance". she said and opened her arms towards him
Alek went into her arms and kissed her in front of me.
He wanted to hurt me and he did.
My heart shattered into a million pieces. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, unable to breathe. Alek's betrayal cut deep, and I knew I couldn't handle it.
Without looking at them, I ran out of the parking lot, into the rain-soaked night. I didn't care where I was going; I just needed to escape.
Their kiss was replying in my head again and again. Everything was fake. There was never any relationship. I read it right somewhere, boys like Alek never settle with one girl.
I was a fool. I was stupid to fall in love with a person like him.
He was never mine.
Heck, even the family I have is not mine. They just took me under their care. I don't know anything about myself. I don't even remember my real name.
I should've died in that accident.
I shouldn't be alive.
I looked at the sky and screamed
"Why, why", I screamed as my tears mixed with the rain
I fell down in the middle of the road and cried without paying attention that a car was coming towards me.
But suddenly, someone grabbed me in the nick of the time before the car hit me.
We both fell down. I looked at my rescuer, it was Demi.
"What were you doing princess. You could've died, have you any idea", Demi yelled at me
"I don't want to live. Not anymore. I want to die, Demi. I want to die. I have no one in my family. No one", I cried
Demi held me at arm's length, his eyes scanning my face. "Princess, listen to me. You are not alone. You have me, you have Dad, and you have yourself. You are strong, capable, and loved."
I shook my head, feeling a fresh wave of tears. "No, Demi. I don't have anyone. Not really. I don't even know who I am or where I come from."
Demi's expression softened.
"That doesn't matter, princess. What matters is who you are today. And today, you are my sister, my friend, and my family. We'll face whatever comes next together, okay?"
I nodded, feeling a small sense of hope. Maybe Demi was right. Maybe I didn't have to be defined by my past or my family. Maybe I could create my own future, my own identity.
"Take me somewhere else, Demi. Please, I don't want to be here anymore", I pleaded
"If you want to, then yes. I'll take you somewhere else where you can start a fresh life away from here", he said and hugged me
I nodded, a glimmer of hope rising within me. Maybe, just maybe, I could find a new beginning, a new me.
After 1 week
I was leaving Athens, not for long though but for some time. I want to find my identity. I want to be something in my life. I wanted to prove to people that I was just not a spoiled princess, I was much more.
Yesterday, I saw on television that Alek is engaged to that girl. They happily announced their engagement. Both of them were looking so happy and in love.
Alek didn't even seem to care about my existence anymore. It was as if he was waiting for me to get out of his life.
But I don't care anymore.
I'm leaving for good. I will become a strong girl, not an emotional fool that I used to be. I will make my new life with new friends and possibly find love.
