Why was it being so darn difficult?
Asaph curled up into a loose ball as he stared at the circulating solar system floating in-between his two hands. He wanted to try a new concept for a solar system which meant they had to figure out everything by themselves without help. They had a very specific idea in mind that none of the other Dominions would be able to assist with. Unfortunately, that idea didn't seem to be executing very well, the planets kept drifting away or pulling into each other instead of circulating her very patiently crafted Black Dwarf Star.
Was the star too small? Some of the planets were the same size as the star, maybe that was the issue. The gravitational pull was all the way off, but Asaph thought she could make it work. Frustrated, Asaph crushed the solar system and watched as the stardust piled neatly on their floor.
Maybe if they made the star bigger.. but then the star would just look like a black hole. Asaph crossed their arms, pulling their knees up to their chest. Why was making new concepts so difficult? She sighed, absentmindedly rolling the stardust back into celestial bodies and then destroying them again, and repeating. Asaph propped her head up with one hand, staring at the planet they had just created. It was larger than some of the other planets he had created so far, bigger than some stars as well. The planet had turned out pitch black, and freezing cold. Asaph shrugged, setting it aside and deciding to make it a friend. A nice icy blue planet that was slightly smaller, they looked nice together. She created a star for the planets to circulate and watched as they orbited.
At least there was something quick and easy to make that wasn't too stressful. Suddenly, Asaph heard footsteps coming closer and looked up to see who it was. It was just Micaiah, looking down at Asaph.
"What are you doing on the floor?" They asked, blinking slowly as if sitting was abnormal, which it was.
"Thinking." Asaph replied, standing up to walk over to the other Angel. "Need anything? Or are you just bored and looking to bug me." Micaiah smiled slightly at the last comment, shaking their head.
"I wanted to see if you needed help with anything, I haven't been given any assignments recently since everybody seems too focused on 'Earth' to pay mind to space." Micaiah shrugged, shifting their feet slightly. Asaph frowned slightly, everything they created wasn't just for laughs and giggles, it was important, not something to use as a wallpaper.
"I don't need help with anything at the moment, maybe one of the other Dominions needs help." They hummed in response, spawning in their folder of work in progress creations.
"I've already asked, they all told me I wasn't experienced enough to help with their creations." Micaiah crossed their arms and frowned deeply.
"Depending on the creation they're probably right." Asaph said jokingly, pulling out a blank sheet. "Here, make a star, those are easy." Micaiah frowned even more, taking the sheet.
"I'm not a new creation! We made a Galaxy together remember? I can do better than a star." Asaph shrugged, putting the folder away.
"Don't complain, the Lord doesn't take kindly to whiners." They crossed over to where they were sitting before pulling the planets back out, fixing minor mistakes and readjusting the gravitational pull.
"Right, sorry." Micaiah sighed, following Asaph like they had nothing better to do. "What are you doing?"
"Playing around with a minor creation." Asaph replied, expanding the small solar system to be a lot bigger. Micaiah stepped back a bit to avoid getting hit in the face by an orbiting planet.
"Can I help? It looks easy enough." They studied the planets and the sun before glancing at Asaph.
"No, sorry Micaiah but I don't want help right now." Asaph lightened her voice to be as nice as possible.
"Okay..." Micaiah sounded disappointed as they walked over to an empty space to start working on a new star. Asaph sighed, watching them leave out of the corner of their eyes. They refocused on their own creation, deciding to throw in a few astroids and add a few moons to the planets.
"That looks interesting." A voice came from behind Asaph, making them jump 20 feet in the air.
"Holy mother of-" Asaph spun around to see who it was, only to find out it was the Angel from a while ago.
"Oh dear, I'm so sorry, did I scare you?" The Angel widened their eyes with worry.
"Nah, I meant to do that." Asaph tried to play it cool, leaning up against the planet and almost imminently falling because it moved away from him.
"You did? That's.. interesting." He blinked, watching the planet float away.
"Yeah well, I'm just full of surprises." Asaph shrugged, readjusting the planet so it would be on the correct orbital path.
"That's wonderful." The other smiled kindly, neatly folding his hands in front of him. "What are you working on?"
"Just something I came up with, nothing special." Asaph glanced down and then back at the planets. "It looked different but I decided this was cooler."
"I'm sure the original version was just as lovely to see." The Angel brightened, studying each planet like they were both interesting in their own ways. "Do they have names?"
"Ah, no not yet, I just made them." Asaph shook her head, shrinking the solar system back down to a more portable size.
"You'll get there..." He hesitated, staring at Asaph like he was thinking hard.
"Asaph." Asaph replied, realizing they didn't know each other's names.
"Right, Aziraphale if you don't remember." Aziraphale, that's right, Asaph knew it started with an A.
"Of course I remembered your name." Asaph lied, not wanting Aziraphale to be sad because he definitely didn't remember. It seemed to have worked because Aziraphale brightened, if that was even possible.
"Oh lovely! I'm so sorry I assumed." Aziraphale dipped his head as an apology.
"Don't worry about it, I don't actively try to remember names but yours stuck." Asaph continued to lie, not sure how else to continue the conversation without being awkward.
"Oh, well that's certainly new." Aziraphale seemed surprised and slightly flustered, fidgeting with his hands.
"Do the other Angels not remember your name?" Asaph asked, blinking slowly.
"Not often, I'm not exactly important." Aziraphale shrugged, looking down. Asaph felt bad for forgetting even more after receiving that information.
"Obviously you're important, you wouldn't have been created if you weren't." Asaph smiled warmly, earning a warm smile back.
"You think so?" Aziraphale asked, sounding hopeful.
"I know so." Asaph nodded, studying Aziraphales face.
"Thank you, that means a lot to me." The other turned slightly pink, maintaining eye contact with Asaph.
"Of course." Asaph dipped his head, slightly promising himself to hang out with Aziraphale more. The two Angels stood in comfortable silence, Asaph fixing the solar system and Aziraphale watching happily. It looked like everything was going well.
