Why was it being so difficult?
Asaph narrowed her eyes at the prototype of his creation. He had been at this for however long, they had lost track of time, and it kept exploding.
"Come on.. what's wrong? Why do you keep exploding?" She whispered to it, being as patient as possible. Asaph took very good care of all their creations and hated being frustrated with them. But this particular one was testing his limits.
The ball of gas and hydrogen started shaking again, eventually exploding into tiny sparks of fire that Asaph cleared away quickly.
"What am I doing wrong? It's never been this difficult before." Asaph leaned back against the wall, tapping their foot lightly as they thought. He heard light footsteps stop right outside of the designated space he had decided was his. The Angel turned their head to see who it was, expecting to see Micaiah or Lucifer.
To his surprise, it wasn't any of the Angels from his friend group. It was the Angel who had helped him a while ago.
"Oh dear, sorry, are you busy?" The Angel seemed hesitant to move any closer, taking a small step back.
"Nah, not anymore I guess." Asaph shrugged, waving the Angel in.
"Not anymore?" He hummed, walking over to Asaph.
"This specific star I'm working on keeps exploding and I don't know why." Asaph sighed, half heartedly making a new prototype to work on. The Angel watched with awe and interest as Asaph made the star.
"I'm not sure if I could be much of help, I don't know a whole lot about star making." He stood aways from Asaph awkwardly, like he wanted to move closer but wasn't sure if he was allowed.
"Oh yeah? What's your position?" Asaph asked, absentmindedly rolling the star between her fingers.
"Well, I'm just an Angel as of now but I've been told I'll be a Principality when 'Earth' gets finalized and created." The Angel said proudly, slightly puffing up his chest.
"Principality, eh? That's quite a jump in ranking." Asaph grinned, looking up at the Angel. "Do you have any information on this 'Earth' place you could leak to me?" The Angel blinked in surprise, tilting his head.
"Do you not know anything? You seem to be pretty high in ranking, I would have assumed..." He trailed off, flicking his gaze away from the area and then back towards Asaph.
"I'm just a high ranking Dominion, I don't really get invited to meetings that aren't discussing what else to create for space. That Earth business is all for the Arch Angels and *Thrones and what not." Asaph shrugged, fiddling with the insides of the star he had in his hands.
"Right, well I'm not invited to the meetings either but I've heard that they're almost finished with the 'human' prototype and they'll be working on finalizing the other creations soon." The Angel gave a firm nod, looking down at his feet for a few seconds. Asaph raised a brow at the Angels behavior before coming to a realization.
"Are you nervous around me because I'm a higher ranking?" She asked, squinting slightly.
"A-huh?" He flinched, widening his eyes in slight surprise. "Ah, sorry, that must be it, I can't help it." The Angel chuckled, rubbing the back of their neck as they looked away.
"Pfft, I don't care about all that 'high ranking' biz, as far as I'm concerned we're both Angels and that's it." Asaph hummed, spinning the star around his head. The Angel looked slightly surprised at Asaphs behavior, completely losing what he was about to say.
"Why do you think it matters what our positions are? I think you should be able to do what you want, not what your rank tells you to do." Asaph kept a steady gaze on the Angel, head slightly tilted.
"Well, I don't think that would be allowed." The other smiled awkwardly, letting out a nervous chuckle. "I'm not sure the Lord would be very pleased if we all did our own thing." Asaph looked slightly disappointed that he didn't share the same views as her.
"Well, I think you should be able to do what you want, you have the power to create like the other Angels, why waste it?" She pressed her palms together and stretched them apart, relieving a small piece of space swirling around as the stars created all sorts of shapes.
"I don't have nearly as much creative power as you do, even if I did I'm not sure what I would use it for." The Angel shrugged, watching Asaph and her creations carefully.
"Well, would you like me to create the stars for you?" Asaph asked, holding out one hand towards the Angel. He looked surprised, face turning ever so slightly pink as he hesitated, eventually accepting Asaphs hand. Asaph gave a warm smile and waved her hand into the air above them, making the space around them full of stars dancing around them. He swirled the stars around them both, casting them back into the space around them. Asaph grinned widely as the other Angel simply watched, eyes full of awe. The two sat in comfortable silence, watching the stars dance and the planets turn, astroids flying across the space and tiny nebulas starting to form.
Asaph took a seat on the floor, leaning up against her left hand since her right was still holding the Angels, who also sat down. She glanced over at the other, rounding her eyes as she watched his face dance around different emotions. The Angel didn't seem to notice her staring, if he did he obviously didn't care. Asaph glanced down at their legs then back at the stars.
It was a weird feeling, being able to share your interests like this. Somehow, this specific Angels presence didn't make him feel awkward or out of place. He just felt right, and safe, a feeling he wasn't sure he had felt before. Asaph felt something brush his shoulder and turned to see that the Angel had moved closer. They didn't mind, shifting a bit closer themselves.
This was nice, Asaph could stay here forever.
