Was this really going to be worth it?
Crowley kept thinking this as he drove towards the bookshop. Every single nerve in his body was screaming to turn around. Return the books and remember to forget. But Crowley had already told himself it would be okay. So there he was, parked outside the bookshop, gifts in hand. The Bookshop was closed per usual, it was almost never open anymore. Aziraphale seemed to always be busy with something, or he just made himself busy to not feel bad about always being closed.
Crowley took in a deep breath and entered the shop. The familiar bell rang overhead as the door opened and closed.
"We're closed I'm afraid!" Aziraphale called from somewhere in the bookshop.
"Angel it's me." Crowley grunted, setting the gifts down on a nearby table.
"Crowley! It's been a day, have you been up to anything?" Aziraphale shuffled out from behind a bookshop and cheerfully moved over to Crowley.
"Something like that... I got you something." Crowley gestured to the gifts he had, already feeling his heart pumping in his head and his blood pressure rising.
"Oh Crowley you didn't have to! Why would you go out of your way to get me anything?" Aziraphale looked up at Crowley with a joyful look on his face.
"Well... Mmm... I have something I wanted to tell you." Crowleys brain was shouting at him to turn around and leave, his legs wanted to run as far as he could put of the bookshop, his mouth wanted to stay shut forever.
"What is it? Oh, take a seat my dear boy." Aziraphale gestured to his work space where he had spare chairs. The two walked over to the space and sat down opposite each other.
"You know that... We've been together on Earth for a while." Crowley frowned, looking away as he tried to remember what he planned to say. "And we've been friends for quite some time, but sometimes I feel like.... Hmmm" Aziraphale sat very patiently, a gentle look of understanding and encouragement plastered on his face as he listened.
"Maybe... There might be something else.. we could be." Crowley looked down at his shoes, burning hot red with embarrassment.
"Whatever do you mean by that my dear boy?" Aziraphale asked, tilting his head curiously.
"You know how humans... Love each other, and then they become something else." Crowley felt as though his words were only getting tangled and caught in his throat every time he tried to speak.
"Yes I do, we helped Nina and Maggie start dating a while ago." Aziraphale nodded, he was quite fond of that memory.
"Yes well, I may, possibly, have those same feelings... For you..." Crowley wanted to slap himself, or descend back down to hell, or both if it rid him of his embarrassment.
"What?" Aziraphale was very taken aback, out of all the things he expected Crowley to say that was certainly not one of them.
"I don't want to be friends angel, I want to be something more." Crowley forced himself to look back up at Aziraphale who seemed to be going through a whole parade of emotions.
"You want to.. become a couple? Like a human couple?" Aziraphale was struggling to pick an emotion to keep on his face.
"Yes." Crowley nodded, thankful that he still had his sunglasses on, his eyes had turned fully yellow from the amount of stress he was experiencing.
"Crowley.."
"If you don't feel the same way you can just say that." Crowley voice broke halfway through that sentence, not being able to bear the thought of losing his best friend to his stupid emotions.
"Oh, no, no not at all my dear." Aziraphales face finally softened into a small happy smile as he got up and walked over to Crowley. "That's not it, I do feel the same way." The Angel cupped one side of the Demons face as he crouched down, using his other hand to remove Crowleys sunglasses. Crowley moved his gaze to look down into Aziraphales.
"You do?" Crowleys voice was so broken he was speaking in barely a whisper.
"Of course I do, how could I not? You're beautiful." Aziraphale whispered, setting the sunglasses down on the table next to him.
"Don't say that angel." Crowley looked away, wishing he still had his sunglasses so he could hide his eyes again.
"But it's true, you've always been beautiful to me, and you've always been good." Aziraphale gently pulled Crowley up so they were both standing.
"Demons aren't supposed to be good." Crowley looked back at Aziraphale, watching the Angels hand fall down to hold his.
"You are, you are so good, I don't care if you don't see it or don't agree, you are so good and that's what I love." Aziraphale felt his eyes start to water but he couldn't take his gaze off of Crowley, not even for a moment. Crowley couldn't figure out how to form a reply so he simply nodded, watching Aziraphales facial expressions.
"Crowley?"
"Yes angel?"
"I love you" Aziraphale felt his face heat up from embarrassment, but he knew he had to say it.
"...I love you too." Crowley croaked, looking down and then back up at Aziraphale again.
"It's weird, being able to say it." Aziraphale commented, letting out a soft awkward chuckle. "But it still feels so right, it feels like something that should have been said a long time ago." Crowley nodded again, his brain, although still buzzing, starting to calm down and was no longer in flight mode.
"I'm not used to it, I don't think I will be for a while, but I'll keep saying it so you know." Crowley smiled slightly, maintaining eye contact with Aziraphale.
"You don't have to say it, I'll know you say it in your mind every day." Aziraphale smiled brightly, pausing as he thought. "Crowley?"
"Yes angel?"
"Can I... Kiss you?" Aziraphale was pretty much an Angel tomato at this point from how red he was. Crowley was also almost the same shade of red, but he gave a firm nod. Aziraphale lifted his free hand and placed it on the side of Crowleys face, closing his eyes. The two came into contact in a nice sweet gentle kiss that felt like it lasted a millennium. Crowley was so sure this was exactly where he wanted to be, and no where else. This was his final happy place.---
