It was now 10:30 and most of the people here are wasted . Sam did not talk to me again , instead he talked to all the girls in the party , even Mary . Who could ever guessed that the New York boy I met is the mayor's son ! I was now staring at him and Mary while they talked and laughed . She was wasted , that's for sure but it does not give her the right to act like a whore ! He saud something and they both turned to look at me . I quickly turned my eye gaze to another group of people avoiding any awkwardness but it was not so long till mary started to walk towards me .  " he is so handsome ! " Mary said and I turned to her with a frown . She nodded her head saying " he also smells the best . Mix of cigarette and berry " . " his smell ? Did you get this close to him ? " I asked her in disgust although she does not know that Sam is the boy I like , no one knows . They know him as the mayor's son . " honey , I didn't get close to him " she said and I let out a deep breath . " he did " she continued and I stopped breathing again . " what ? " I asked in shock . " he kissed me on my cheek . How nice ! " I turned to him and he was already looking at me . Our eyes met and I glared at him then turned to Mary again who seemed to notice what I just did . " why did you do that ? " Mary asked while Lucas walked towards us . She put the beer cup aside and continued " don't think that he will like you out of all these girls . You are the only blonde in this town and I don't think any boy would like to be around you " her words were like heavy rocks and the most horrible thing was Lucas hearing them . " hey ! Are you guys okay ? " Lucas asked with a frown and she replied saying " i'm perfectly fine but the blondy fun killer thinks that she can have any boy she wants ! Right blondy ?" . " don't listen to her , she is drunk " Lucas told me and it just took me few seconds before tears started to stream from my eyes . " I'm going home " I whispered to Lucas as he gently pulled me from my arm to go outside . My grandma already left so it was just him now . I wish I can avoid the attention but I guess that I only can have it . People were staring at me whispering things to each other . My eyes met Sam's ones for a while then I broke the connection and walked outside . Me and Lucas kept the silence for a while till he spoke " look , you are beautiful and she knows that well , she even admitted it to me when we first met you . She is usually nice to people but she just said that because she is drunk , that's what i think " . I nodded my head to him with a smile but it turned out to be a sad one " I want to go home " I said and my voice cracked at the end . " we are going " he told me . " no , I want to go home . In California " I replied and rubbed my arms wishing for Warmth . He stripped from his jacket and put it on my arms . I smiled at him mumbling " thank you " . It didn't take us too much to reach the house . When we got in , my grandma was asleep . I was about to climb up the stairs when Lucas voice stopped me . " do you want to talk about it ? " I stopped then turned to him with a smile and I know I look horrible " no , thanks " I said then turned to enter my room . " okay , that's sad because I will have to drink the hot chocolate with marshmallows alone " he yelled from down stairs and I did not touch the door's handle . I smiled getting down the stairs then looked at him with a smile saying " well , in this case I think I would like to talk about it " . A huge grin was plastered on his face then he told me to wait for him in the stable . I did as he told me and went there . It didn't take him so long to be there , five minutes or something . He was carrying two hot chocolate cups and handed me one of them . I took a sip from it then smiled at him " it tastes very good ! How to do you know how to make it ? " I asked him and he smiled . " I work three days in the farm and three in a coffee shop . I take Friday off " . " hey , maybe you can help me find a job too ? Maybe at that cafe you work at ! " I suggested more like a request  and he took a sip from his cup then smiled at me . " well , why not ? So , what happened between you and Mary today ? " . I took a deep breath then asked him if he can keep a secret and he promised he will , that's when i started telling him what happened . " there's a guy that I told her about . she was all over him today . She does not know that this guy and the Mayor's son are the same person though " I told him and he frowned saying " weird ! Girls are weird ! You saw a boy in a party and you fall for him already !" . " no ! I met him they day i got here ! " . I said with a frown . " wait a minute ! He said he had just arrived today from New York City ! How did you know him ? " this time was his to frown ! Did Sam say that ? " he lied ! I met him two days ago . The first time I talked to him was when I had this fight with you and Mary =and the second time when I was collecting the hens " I told him and he laughed . " what ? " I asked confused . " funny ! girls are funny . you talked to a guy twice and you fall for him already ? " he said using the same phrase he used earlier and i rolled my eyes saying " don't blame me ,blame him for being so handsome " . We stayed up for a bit and he told me stories about him parents and when he came to live here with his brother . He was not as i expected him to be . " I have to go home now , I only stay here when I have to work at the stable but the rest of the week , i stay at mine and my brother's place " he explained softly . " if you are not staying here today , can I sleep in your room ? I do not want to see Mary at least for today " I shyly asked him and he replied " sure ! " . He walked towards the stable door and was about to go out before turning to me again . " why do you say -are not- and don't say -aren't- ? Why -I am- and not -i'm- ? -do not- and not -don't- ? " he asked me rubbing the back of his head . " it sounds better , I guess ? " I said more like a question and he smiled . " yeah , it sounds better . Sleep tight " with that he got out . I went to the basement and threw my body on the couch then i was drifted to a deep sleep .
Next morning , I went inside the house to find Mary and my grandma there . I was about to ask where is Lucas then I remembered what he told me yesterday . " good morning my dear grandma " I told my grandma then kissed her in her forehead . She and Mary stared at me with wide open eyes .well, they have to be shocked but they will get used to this by time . I will fit here without Mary's help and i will be a good girl . I will be a good grandchild to my grandma and good friend for Lucas . I will be the best girlfriend for Sam . Why did I just say that ? Forget the last part . " good morning " Mary said with a smile and I glared at her then focused on my muffin . " i'm so lucky to have such a grandma , you make the best muffin ever " I said taking a huge bite of my muffin . She smiled at me still not believing what I just said . " Lucas is not here today because he have .. " Mary tried to talk but I rudely cut her saying " I know " . She was taken back by my answer but did not say any other word . I did not have much to do today so I just helped my grandma washing the dishes . " what's going on ?" My grandma asked me raising her eyebrow . I dried my hand then gave her my attention . " I just realized that if I like it here on not it will not change a thing , so why do not I be a good girl ? And I would love to get close to my grandma that I never saw before " I told her and smiled then kissed her on her cheek which caused her to smile too . She left the kitchen and I continued washing the dishes .
