Noah POV
- Master Flynn, you absolutely must return to Boston to represent this case in court. The client fired your replacement, Master Dowley, and threatened to go to our competitors.
I listened to the words of my former boss while in my head, I said to myself : No, not that! The Wells vs. Sanders case was the big case I was working on when I left Boston a few months earlier. I was more than happy to pass the torch to someone else. Master Hayley Dowley went to law school with me at Harvard and what I can say about her is that I never liked her. So, not only would I have to return to Boston, immerse myself in this difficult case, but also put up with this sharp, smug and castrating woman. But, I had no choice, my boss in LA had already given his approval.
I called Elle at the hospital last night while packing my suitcase. She spent her entire dinner hour listening to me tell her everything this situation was putting me through. It's crazy that since we've been back together, she barely has to make any effort for me to sit at the kitchen island and unpack everything I'm going through!
This morning really early, I was sitting in front of my boarding gate waiting for my plane to Boston as I had done several times in the last 8 years. And that I hoped I wouldn't have to do so frequently anymore... Just before the plane took off, I received a message from Elle who sent me a photo of a rainbow taken in the mountains of India.
Elle : Does this remind you of anything?
I smiled recognizing the photo... so much!
Flashback Boston, 2 years before the meeting in front of the Kissing booth
It was the summer between my first and second year of law school. I was interning at a well-known law firm in Boston. I was trying to put extra effort into this internship even though... it's not the kind of summer I had initially planned.
Since our weekend in New York last spring, I had been planning to spend the summer with Elle in Baltimore. I even found an internship there! But before I could tell her about it, I found out from Lee that she was going on a humanitarian trip to the Indian mountains for the whole summer. So, instead of spending the summer with the love of my life... I spent it in a Boston law office with one of my classmates who I can't stand. Hayley Dowley is nicknamed "castrant" by the guys at law school. She is critical and even denigrating towards others and especially towards guys. Let's just say she's the type of girl I avoid like the plague most of the time. But there I was trapped...for the whole summer!
The boss was very impressed by my research work on a case and offered to accompany him to the court. It was my first experience attending court and I was particularly nervous. When I left the office that evening, Hayley caught me in the elevator.
- So, you do your parting since the boss chose you to go to court with him." She said, looking at me with her contemptuous look.
- The boss only appreciated my work, Hayley!" I simply told her hoping to get to the ground floor as quickly as possible.
- Anyway, I just have to wait for you to run aground Flynn! And next time, the boss will have no choice but to see that my work is better than yours." She replied with a smug look before exiting the elevator.
