The next morning Dazai walked downstairs to the kitchen where his mother and step mother were drinking coffee. "Good morning." Dazai greeted them nonchalantly.

His mother smiled warmly at him, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Good morning, Dazai." She replied, pouring him a cup of freshly brewed coffee. "Did you sleep well?"

Dazai nodded, wrapping his hands around the warm mug. "Yeah, I had a good night's rest." He replied, taking a sip from the aromatic brew.

Yosano, his mother, sat across from him, her expression gentle and inviting. Beside her was Kouyou, Chuuya's mother, her posture elegant yet approachable. It was their first morning together as a new family, and despite Dazai's usual nonchalant demeanor, a hint of curiosity flickered in his eyes.

Kouyou observed Dazai quietly, her gaze assessing yet not unkind. "Good morning, Dazai," she greeted him, her voice carrying a soft tone. "I hope you are adjusting well to everything."

Dazai managed a small smile, a flicker of politeness in his eyes. "Yeah, it has been... Interesting..." He replied, choosing his words carefully. He wasn't one to easily open up, especially to someone he barely knew, even if she was now his stepmother.

Yosano interjected with a warm smile. "Give it some time, dear," she said, her voice soothing. "We are still getting used to this new arrangement." Her gaze shifted to Kouyou, a silent understanding passing between them.

As they sat together, the morning sunlight filtering through the windows, Dazai couldn't help but steal glances at Chuuya, who entered the kitchen with a scowl on his face. The tension between them was palpable, a silent acknowledgment of their strained relationship.

Chuuya's eyes narrowed as he glanced at Dazai, his expression unreadable. "Morning," he muttered, his tone clipped.

Dazai merely nodded in response, his own demeanor cool and distant. The uneasy atmosphere lingered, a stark contrast to the warmth of the coffee and the gentle chatter of their mothers.

Kouyou, ever perceptive, tried to diffuse the tension. "Chuuya, why don't you join us for breakfast?" She suggested, her voice light.

Chuuya's scowl deepened, but he reluctantly took a seat at the table. Silence fell over them as they began to eat, the only sound the clinking of cutlery against plates.

Dazai glanced at Chuuya, studying him discreetly. He noted the way Chuuya's brows furrowed slightly as he ate, a subtle sign of irritation. Despite their shared space, they remained like strangers, two young boys bound by familial ties yet distant in every other sense.

Yosano attempted to engage them in conversation, asking about their plans for the day. "Any activities you boys have in mind?" She inquired, her tone cheerful.
