"Are you close?" Chase asked over the phone. "Mhm" I replied back. "Just another 10 minutes and I'll be right over there." I reassured. "Okay just let me know when you're outside so I can help you unload your stuff." "Okay, bye."
I looked out the window and scanned the neighborhood, not bad.
I'm used to living in the city, that a normal neighborhood odds me out. Everyone here has some sort of connections with each other, while in the city, we mind our business.
Chase has always lived in the countryside, he had the chance to move to the city with me and our Grandma. But he grew attachment to the environment he had always lived in, especially after the death of his mother.
It's been quite some time since she passed away. Maybe almost a year now? I would say that her passing opened an opportunity for Chase which led him to continue his passion for boxing.
He was this lazy couch potato dude, and neglected his body. His coach was always tough on him, he saw potential in Chase. But he ran away from his boxing career because he developed an eating disorder.
"We've arrived at your destination." The uber driver said. I nodded my head and I gave him a smile. "I'm here."
"Coming."
I see Chase coming out of the house and making his way towards the car, I got out and gave him a hug. "You've grown so much." he chuckled, "It's been 2 years since you've last seen me."
He helped me with my bags and luggage and showed me around the house. "This is your room, the other doors don't open unless it's the bathroom or my room." I nodded my head and walked over to my room. "I'll settle in and come out during dinner." "Okay."
I laid down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. It'll take some time for me to adjust to this new life.
I moved in with Chase because I needed to get away from the city. My modeling agency turned his back on me and backlash began to surface about me. My modeling career was over.
Many agencies and companies stopped their projects with me and believed the rumours that I was hard to work with and picky. Many more comments were made, and paparazzis started tailing me and posting pictures without my consent.
I thought moving as far away as I can would prevent any more pictures of me resurfacing.
"Choi wake up! Open the door!" I forced my eyes open and checked the time on my phone, 9:37pm. I got up and opened the door for Chase. "What?" "You missed dinner. But I cooked some on the side for you."
I gave him a smile and followed him behind to the table. "Eat up, I'm going to sleep I have practice at 6 in the morning tomorrow." I nodded my head, "Okay goodnight." he walked over to his room and shut the door.
I took out my phone as I sat down and made myself a plate. Scrolling through my messages with my agencies and companies asking me to clear up my name and the other half cutting me off, claiming they knew all along that I was stingy.
I rolled my eyes and chuckled at the fact that these people were once my peers and congratulated me, now they're turned against me.
I finished up my dinner and brought it over to the sink. I heard the front door opening, it must be the other roommates. I quickly wiped the plate and walked over to the door.
"Hi there!" I greeted them, they turned around. "Hey-"
We both stood there, staring at each other, frozen.
"Oh you must be the cousin Chase was talking about! I'm Sean, nice to meet you." the guy beside him stuck out his hand. "Hi Sean.. I'm Cynthia!" I reached for his hand and shook it.
Sean gently shoved Devin, signaling him to greet me aswell. "Oh uhm, hi Cynthia I'm Devin." he introduced himself. So I guess we're going to pretend that we don't know each other. I flashed my smile at him, "Hi Devin! So nice to meet you, I can't wait to be living with you two!"
They both smiled at me and I excused myself to my room.
I shut the door and turned my back against it, I need to get out of here. Now.
I started grabbing all of my clothes and belongings, putting it back inside my bags and luggages. I can't stay here, not with him. I cringed at the way I acted back there and up until now.
I stopped myself from packing and took all of it out, putting it back where it was before. I sighed, maybe it's not that bad. 4 years has passed and we both have moved on. (Well atleast I have, I don't know if that's the case for him aswell.)
I couldn't sleep that night, it was 2:12am. I got out of my room to grab a glass of water and maybe a snack.
"You have troubles sleeping?" he asked me. I looked at him and nodded. I scanned through the fridge and grabbed a yogurt cup and filled my glass with water.
He cleared his throat, "So.. I didn't know you and Chase were cousins." I set my glass down, "Yah we are... surprised you couldn't tell by our last names." he was dumbfounded. He scratched the back of his neck.
"I'm gonna go back to my room." I said, walking over to my door. "Wait- uh." I turned to look over at him. "Cynthia, don't feel awkward or weirded out about us living under the same roof. Just don't mind me and make yourself comfortable at home." he smiled. I smiled back at him, "Yep thanks Devin."
I closed my door and let out a sigh of relief, this concludes that we have both started a new chapter and have completely moved on.
