In the dimly lit room, Eliza stood, trembling with fury, holding the letters Alexander had given her. Tears streamed down her face as she clenched the papers in her trembling hands. With each word she read, the pain in her heart grew stronger, fueling the flames of her rage.
"I'm burning the letters you wrote me," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion as she crumpled the letters in her hands. The betrayal she felt was overwhelming, consuming her from within.
As she moved towards the fireplace, the flames flickered invitingly, beckoning her to release her anger. With a cry of anguish, Eliza tossed the letters into the fire, watching as they ignited in a blaze of fury.
With each letter she reread and thrown to the fire, Eliza's rage grew more potent. She could feel the weight of Alexander's betrayal bearing down on her, crushing her spirit.
"You published the letters she wrote you," she spat, her voice rising in fury as the flames danced before her. "You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed, in clearing your name you have ruined our lives."
As the fire completely devoured the letters and turned it into ash, Eliza still couldn't fathom the situation.
"I'm erasing myself from the narrative." she cried, her voice cracking with emotion as she watched the letters turn to ash. "Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted when you broke her heart."
The last of the letters disintegrated into nothingness, Eliza collapsed to her knees, tears streaming down her face. The fire crackled and hissed, its warmth offering her some small measure of comfort amidst the wreckage of her heart.
Y/N cautiously approached the room, hearing her mother's cries echoing through the hallway. She gently pushed open the door and found Eliza kneeling before the fireplace, her face streaked with tears.
"Ma?" Y/N's voice was barely above a whisper as she stepped into the room.
Eliza looked up, her eyes red-rimmed and swollen from crying. "Y/N," she murmured, her voice wavering with emotion.
Y/N moved closer, kneeling beside her mother and wrapping her arms around her in a comforting embrace. "I'm here, Ma." she whispered, her heart aching at the sight of Eliza's pain.
Y/N felt her own disappointment and hurt towards her father, Alexander, bubbling up inside her. "He should have known better, Ma." she said softly, her voice tinged with bitterness.
Eliza nodded, her grip on Y/N tightening. "I don't know how to face him, Y/N. I don't know if I can forgive him," she admitted, her voice filled with uncertainty.
Suddenly Alexander entered the room, Eliza's body tensed, her eyes flashing with anger. Y/N, standing beside her mother, mirrored her fury, her jaw clenched in resentment.
"What are you doing here?" Eliza's voice was sharp, cutting through the tense silence that hung between them.
Alexander's expression softened, his eyes pleading for forgiveness. "Eliza, please. I need to explain," he said, his voice tinged with desperation.
Y/N stepped forward, her voice cold and controlled. "Explain what, Pa? How you betrayed Ma's trust?" she spat, her words dripping with disdain.
"Don't take another step in my direction I can't be trusted around you. Don't think you can talk your way into my arms" Eliza sneered
Alexander winced, the weight of his actions pressing down on him like a heavy burden. "I never meant to hurt you, Eliza. I was foolish, blinded by my own ambition," he said, his voice laced with regret.
Eliza shook her head, her eyes brimming with tears. "You chose your legacy over your family, Alexander. In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives." she said, her voice cracking with emotion. "When will you learn that our children are your legacy, that we are your legacy!"
Y/N stepped closer to her mother, a protective arm wrapping around her shoulders. "You don't get to waltz back into our lives and expect everything to be okay," she said, her voice trembling with anger.
Alexander took a step forward, reaching out towards Eliza, but she recoiled, her gaze hardening. "I can't do this right now. You forfeit all rights to my heart. You forfeit the place in our bed. Just sleep in your office instead." she said, her voice strained with emotion.
Y/N tightened her grip around Eliza, offering silent support as they watched Alexander's retreating figure.
"I'm sorry, Ma" Y/N whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Eliza turned to her daughter, her eyes weary but filled with love. "It's not your fault, Y/N. None of this is," she said, brushing a stray tear from Y/N's cheek.
Y/N shook her head, frustration evident in her voice. "I just hate seeing you hurt like this, Ma. You deserve so much better," she said, her voice trembling with anger.
Eliza reached out, cupping Y/N's face in her hands. "And so do you, my dear. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." she said, her voice gentle but firm
Y/N leaned into her mother's touch, finding solace in the warmth of her embrace. "What are we going to do, Ma?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Eliza sighed, her gaze distant as she considered their options. "For now, we'll take things one day at a time. As long as I have you and your brother Philip, I'll be alright." she said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty that lay ahead.
Y/N nodded, determination shining in her eyes. "We'll get through this together, Ma. I promise," she said, her voice filled with conviction.
