As Y/N Hamilton walked alongside her older brother Philip, the air was thick with murmurs, whispers that danced around them like elusive ghosts.
"Did you hear about that scandalous pamphlet?" one passerby murmured.
Philip, ever protective, noticed Y/N's attention drifting towards the hushed conversations. "Y/N, let's focus on our walk." he gently urged, trying to shield her from the weight of the adult world.
But Y/N's curiosity, like a persistent melody, lingered. She caught snatches of phrases: "Reynolds Pamphlet," "Hamilton's scandal," and "Betrayal".
Philip could sense her confusion, her innocence colliding with the complexities of grown-up secrets.
"It's nothing for you to worry about, Y/N" he assured her, attempting to shelter her from the storm brewing in the adult world. Yet, the whispers persisted, leaving a lingering question in Y/N's mind, a puzzle she couldn't quiet piece together.
Without Philip knowing, Y/N took one pamphlet and hid it.
--------------------------------------------------------------Alone in her room, Y/N unfolded the crinkled pamphlet she secreted away. The words sprawled across the pages like a forbidden story waiting to be unraveled.
"The charge against me is a connection with one James Reynolds!
For purposes of improper speculation.
My real crime is an amorous connection with his wife,
for a considerable time with his knowing consent.
I had frequent meetings with her. Most of them at my own house.
Mrs. Hamilton with our children being absent on a visit to her father."Y/N sat in stunned silence, the weight of the revelation pressing down on her like a heavy cloak. "That's.... that's about Pa?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Tears welled up in her eyes, a mix of confusion and betrayal swirling within her young heart. "How could he?" she choked out, her voice barely audible in the silence of her room.
Her emotions threatened to overwhelm her, a tidal wave crashing against the fragile shores of her innocence. "This can't be true," she muttered, clutching the pamphlet tightly as if hoping it would dissolve into nothingness.
But the words remained, etched into her mind like an indelible scar. With a heavy sight, Y/N buried her face in her hands, grappling with the shattered imager of her father, a man she had revered without question until now. In that moment of solitude, she realized that some truths were too painful to bear alone.
Y/N's footsteps echoed down the hallway as she made her way to Philip's room, the weight of the pamphlet heavy in her hands. She knocked softly before pushing the door open, finding her brother seated at his desk, lost in thought.
"Philip," Y/N began, her voice trembling with emotion. "I read it. I read the pamphlet."
Philip's gaze snapped up, concern etched across his features as he took in her tear-streaked face. "Y/N, are you alright?" he asked, rising from his chair to approach her.
"No, I'm not alright!" Y/N exclaimed, her sorrow morphing into a fiery anger. "How could he do this to us? To Ma?"
Philip's eyes widened in realization as he grasped the source of her anguish. "Y/N, I know it's difficult to understand-"
"Understand?" Y/N cut him off, her voice rising with each word. "How can I understand when he betrayed us all?"
Philip wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close as she buried her face against his chest, her anger giving way to raw pain. "I know it hurts, Y/N" he whispered, his own voice thick with emotion.
As the sound of Alexander's footsteps echoed through the house, Y/N's anger flared anew, her fists clenched at her sides. "How dare he show his face here after what he's done?" she seethed, her voice laced with bitterness.
Before Philip could interject, Alexander entered the room, his expression weary yet hopeful. "Y/N, Philip," he greeted, his voice tinged with apprehension. "Is everything alright?"
Y/N's jaw clenched as she faced her father, her gaze burning with unspoken accusation. "How could you, Pa?" she spat, the words venomous on her tongue. "How could you betray us like this? How could you even publicize this?"
Alexander's eyes widened in shock, his features contorted with a mixture of guilt and remorse. "Y/N, I-"
But Y/N would hear none of it, her anger a raging inferno consuming all reason in its wake. "Save your excuses," she snapped, her voice raw with emotion. "You've destroyed our family, and for what? A fleeting moment of pleasure??"
Philip stepped forward, his voice a soothing balm amidst the chaos. "Y/N, please," he urged, his hand reaching out to her. "Let's talk about this calmly."
But Y/N recoiled, her heart heavy with betrayal. "There's nothing left to say," she declared, her voice a whispered echo of the pain raging within her.
As Y/N turned to leave, Alexander's voice cut through the air like a knife, his words heavy with a sense of self-righteousness. "Y/N, you need to understand," he began, his tone tinged with a hint of desperation. "I've spent my life building a legacy, a reputation that-"
Y/N spun around, her eyes blazing with fury. "Your legacy?" she scoffed, her voice dripping with disdain. "What about our family's legacy? What about the trust and love you've shattered into pieces?"
Alexander's expression faltered, his façade of composure crumbling beneath the weight of her accusation. "Y/N, I never meant to-"
"Save it!" Y/N spat, her words a venomous retort. "Your precious reputation means nothing when you've torn our family apart!"
Philip stepped forward, his voice a plea for reason amidst the chaos. "Y/N, that's enough" he urged, his hand reaching out to her once more. "Let's not do this now."
But Y/N shook her head, her anger unchecked, a wildfire raging within her. "No, Philip," she declared, her voice echoing through the room. "He needs to know the pain he's caused."
Alexander's shoulders slumped in defeat, the weight of his daughter's words heavy upon him. "Y/N, I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely audible above the tumult of emotions. "I'm so sorry."
But Y/N's heart remained hardened, her wounds too fresh, too deep to be so easily assuaged. With one final glare of contempt, "I hope you're satisfied Pa." she turned and disappeared, leaving her father and brother.
