Polly Had just put some soup on the stove. She was home alone because her parents had just left for a vacation trip to Europe. Knock Knock Knock! When the door. "Now who could that be?" she questioned with an alacrity. She carelessly made her way to the door and flung it open. "Hello!" she sang out. She did this with her eyes closed. When she opened them she was face to face with what any normal person would have taken for a monster. It looked to be a tall black human-like thing with red eyes. "Well hello mister," She began, "What can I do for you?" she said without changing her expression or tone, she was as bright and happy as ever.
"Please," began the figure, "May I come in, I need to use your Z1 computer." "Z1, " she laughed, "This aint the 1930s, naw we just have a window." "Windows" he said. "Wait, if this isn't the nineteen thirties, then what year is it?" "ahh, I don't know, I think twenty fifty, maybe fifty one?" If she could have seen how pale his face became from behind his mask she might have taken him for a ghost. "Ive been frozen, for... One hundred and twenty years?" he said mostly to himself. "I'm not sure I understand?" said Polly, now looking puzzled. "One hundred and twenty years..." was all he said.
Darren spent the next two weeks trying to figure the world out. There was so much to learn, and so little time to learn it. He figured that with all the new scientific breakthroughs there must be some invention out there that could fix him, but to his disappointment no one had had their atoms split.
Polly was very happy to learn that Darren wished to stay at her house for the next few weeks, you see being an only child and homeschooled she was very lonely(Also she hadn't had a pet since she politely asked her dog to wait outside while she got her shoes).
At first he seemed normal to her(Besides the dark robes he wore all the time), but eventually she started to notice word things about him. For instance, he ate his pancakes from the inside out. Oh ya, he also would sometimes just go through the walls and phase through objects. To Polly, the pancakes thing was weirder.
"Why do you always wear that mask?" asked polly as she eyed him from across the table. "And then only take it off when you eat?" she added. "I'm mostly blind." He begane, "This mask is the only way I can see." "If I were you, I would make a more classy looking mask." she said between mouthfuls of rice. "Right now, you just look like a monk going snorkeling." At that she laughed at her own bad joke. Despite this conversation being very one sided, It did give Darren some ideas.
Darren mostly kept to himself, if he wasn't in the kitchen he was in the computer room. Poly also noticed that he kept a dark red notebook with him at all times. "What's that?" she asked. "It's my notebook, it contains all my plans." He said not even looking up, which would be pointless anyways because he was still blind. "What sort of plans?" She said, eying him closely. "My plans to fix myself, it's my only goal."
The next day, Polly noticed that Darren looked a little off. "What's wrong?" she asked, "I just can't figure out what to do?" He said, grasping his hair and then twirling it. "Can't figure out how to do what?" She said, clearly not satisfied with that last answer. "I have finally figured out how to fix my condition, but.." "But what?" "Well, let's just say it would require four suns worth of energy just to get halfway through with the process."
Darren looked like he wasn't in the mood for talking, but Polly was not very good at reading emotions. "How did you even end up like that?" "Like what" he said, actually looking up from his food to make eye contact. "Wiat, how'd you just make eye contact with me, I thought you said that you couldn't see?" she asked, confused.
"Well, I took your idea of a more classy way to see and scaled down my googles technology and make some contact lenses that I can now wear." "Cool, anyways what i meant what happened that allowed you to be able to phase through walls and such." she said, waving her fork towards him.
