Chapter Twenty One

THE KIDS WERE LOCKED IN Grant's bedroom. They were supposedly safe there but they weren't. They needed to leave.

Lexy was banging on the door to be let out, while Nat had just decided to sit on the floor underneath the window. Devon and Jake soon joined her.

"How are you doing?" Jake whispered, rubbing Nat's arm. She just shrugged, not having any words to describe how she's feeling. He sighed, putting his arm around her, "we'll figure this out."

"Hello?" Lexy yelled.

"I can't believe that guy took our phones. I finally had the footage to prove it," Devon complained.

"Hicks says he's CIA," Grant muttered and Nat looked over at her friend. He was stressed and for good reason, there was too much happening. He found out his real dad died and that guy from last night was a body double of the president.

"Give it up, Lex. We're never getting out," Devon sighed.

"CIA? That's not good," Jake scoffed, holding Nat tighter. She could feel him get more anxious.

"None of this is good. Chucky's gone, and now I'm never gonna see Caroline again," Lexy sat down on the orange thing beside Nat.

"We'll find her, Lex. We won't stop until we find her," Nat reassured her, grabbing her hand and squeezing it.

Grant sniffed, he was ignoring them, staring down at the floor. Nat got out of Jake's hold, not wasting a second sitting beside him. She couldn't imagine what he's going through. She sat beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder. "There's just so much shit we never got to say." Nat shut her eyes, feeling a pit grow in her stomach, knowing that feeling all too well.

The other three stood up slowly, and walked over to them. The door then opened and they all turned in unison, hoping to be finally let out. "Your mother asked to see you," Grant's guard said.

"Just him," the other added.

"No way. I'm not leaving them," Grant said.

"You can't keep us in here forever," Lexy stepped forward.

"Honestly, this might be the safest place for you at the moment."

Grant grabbed Nat's shoulder, pulling her aside. "I'll go get help and come back for you guys. Trust me," he whispered.

"Be careful, okay?" He nodded and the two hugged, before he followed the guards out and they locked the door.

Nat's body lowered onto the bed and her hands ran over her face, "Nat," Lexy sighed sitting down beside her.

Sobs escaped Nat's throat and Lexy brought her closer, "I feel like everything's gone to shit. Chucky's dead and now we probably won't be able to find Caroline and now we're locked in this fucking place."

"I know... I feel you... I want to find Caroline so bad but we just have to be strong, figure out a way to escape first," Nat pulled back and Lexy put her fingers up to her chin and they leaned in for a kiss.

They pulled away and Nat's eyes flickered over to Jake and Devon who weren't watching. They had given them a moment rather than stare at them as they shared a moment. She was slightly relieved by that.

The door soon opened again and they jumped up from the bed and ran over to Grant, "thank god," Nat sighed.

"Come on. I'm getting you out of here," Grant began to walk away but Lexy pulled him back.
