When my mom said that I was moving, I thought she was joking. Then I saw the boxes.

When my dad died, it took a long time for her to get over it. Now that my brother, Jake has died I had no idea how she'd take it. It had been the three of us. I mean four counting Max our ex army German shepherd dog.

I was now sitting in the car as mom drove silently beside me, I was ignoring her. How could she do this to me?! Sending me away to a new state with a family that's not even family... they were dads old friends... I hadn't spoken to them since I was 13. I'm 16 now... it's been three years...

We finally pulled onto a gravel road, lined with fencing. Horse grazed in the pastures.

Soon we got to a giant brown house, in front a small pin with a horse sits. A few feet away was a barn.

This was my new home.

My mom stops the car and we sat there in the silence for a second. No one spoke.

Finally my mom cleared her throat and said, "we're here..."

I didn't answer.

My mom then gets out, "grab your bags, Katelyn is probably inside waiting."

Kaylynn was close friends with mom. With her bright red hair and fiery eyes you'd see her as the fun aunt instead of a mom. She's married Danial, my dad's best friend. They had seven kids, and I know what you thinking. Seven?! Let me break it down.

When Katlyn learned she couldn't have kids she decided she wanted to foster. This lead to their first son, Raiden and his younger brother who's a year younger than me, Jace. Then there was Miles who's 17, Kethan who's 16 (my age but a month behind me), Aelia 15, Katleen who's 14, and Benji who's 6.

I sigh getting out of the car and grab my double bag from out of the seat. "I still don't see why I have to go here. I can stay with you."

"Right now we I don't have the resources to raise a kid, and your therapist is worried about you. She doesn't think you're coping well..." my mom says.

Once Jake died mom made it her duty to enroll me into therapy. Even though I see no point in it. I hated talking about it my feelings, especially to someone I didn't know.

Just as I closed the car door I hear a door swing open. "Jolynn!!!" Looking up I see Katlynn run down the stairs and to my mom hugging her. "It's been too long."

"It has" my mom agrees.

Katlynn turns to me, "Esme! My you've changed!" She hugs me tight. I've missed my Katlynn hugs.

She turns to my mom, "I have a fresh batch of cookies in the house if you want a bite."

Before my mom could answer I hear someone yell, "run!!!" And I turn to see a horse barreling towards me.
