That night I didn't sleep much. Truthfully I never really sleepy much since Jake died. But this night was really bad, especially with the thought in the back of my head that rodent could pop out of nowhere at any second.
My friend from back home, Aicko, had taught me to apply makeup to cover the black circles which came in extra handy. Especially getting mom off my back when she also had the black circles.
Getting up I got dressed and finally decided on maybe my tenth outfit. Then after I applied makeup for my eye bags I grabbed my school bag and walked downstairs. I had always been home schooled so I had no clue what I should wear. The only teens I'd been around were the ones at a market or the library. And that wasn't much. Besides Aicko of course.
It was a rampage of messes. Kids ran around everywhere as they searched for their stuff."Has anyone seen my soccer ball!" Katleen yells running past me.
Jace yelled, "No!!!"
I found Katlynn in the kitchen drinking a cup of coffee as she watched the kids run around. "Morning."
"Morning" I look around. "What's for breakfast." Mom had always had something ready, unless I found a note on the table saying she'd be back in a bit.
"Cereal" Katlynn says.
Raiden runs past me to the cupboard, grabbing out a plastic bowl and hint to another cupboard to get cereal.
I followed suit grabbing a bowl and pouring some captain crunch. I was cleaning my dish when I hear, "time to go!!!!"
In a flash everyone was barreling out of the house and jumping into the old van while the littles got into a car with Katlynn. She was a middle school teacher and drove them to school every day. That's another reason she loves kids so much.
I was scrunched in the middle of the back row as Raiden drove and Miles sat in the passenger seat. The parking lot was packed when we got there and it took us a second to find a spot. Before Raiden unlocked the doors he announced, "it's a full car today so no giving rides to friends or girls!!!"
Everyone mutters a, "we know" as we pulled out.
As people vanished into the crowd of kids I found myself not moving.
"Hey" I turn to Aelia. She'd pulled her blond hair into a French braid today.
"Hey" my voice sounded nervous. I hated it.
"Need help finding your class?" She asks.
"Really", I asked. I tried not to sound too happy and hopeful. She was the only other girl I knew my age, I couldn't have a bad first impression.
"Yea, first days always the worst" she says. "Can I see your paper?"
I nod handing it to her.
"Geometry... Biology... English 10... World history... Drawling 1... and Civics. Yup I can show you where those are at." Leading me to the school I almost had time run to catch up. Soon we were at my locker and she was showing me how to open it. After I got my stuff put away that I didn't need she walked me to Geometry.
