Clove stares at the boy in front of her, poised to kill her.
"I can't give you one reason to keep me alive. Kill me." Clove tells Cato.
Something seems to change in Cato's expression. A new look shows in his eyes. Sympathy. He lowers the blade of his sword. "No. At the moment your valuable alive than dead." He holds out his hand to help her up, which she accepts.
"Thank you." She whispers.
"Follow me." Cato gestures.
Rain pours down unto the two of them, causing Clove to be chilled the bone, despite her jacket. Although the sky was brightening up, heavy gray clouds still stay in their place in the sky. They walk for a long time. Cato leads her up top of a mountain that isolates them from the remaining Tributes. She throws her pack on the muddy ground, and sits down next to it, gazing into the distance.
The rain doesn't stop for three continuous days.
When it does, the sky clears instantly. Clove spirits are lifted. She takes some dried beef sticks and eats it while Cato makes a plan. "We have to eliminate Thresh before we get to Katniss and Loverboy. Any ideas?"
She shakes her head. "None. Isn't he in the tall grass?"
"Yeah, he's been camping out there for a majority of the Games." Cato replies.
Clove shudders at the thought of running into Thresh. The last time she saw him up close she had the brains to leave before he could get his hands on her. "Who knows what could be hiding in that grass."
"Yeah." Cato gets lost on thought. His eyes land on her hand, specifically her ring. "When did you get that?" He asks pointing to it.
"Oh. My mom gave it to me before I left." She says, suddenly remembering her mother's words on not to trust Cato. Then she remembers her small plan to kill Cato. I guess I will have to carry out with it. Tonight. She promises herself.
"Anyway." Cato diverts the conversation back to Thresh. "Maybe I should go alone. He's tall and strong. Nothing I couldn't handle. But you on the other hand.."
Clove slaps his arm playfully. "Oh shut up." But she was smiling. "Alright. Just be careful. I think he might be a little taller than you."
"Oh please." He rolls his eyes.
"I'm kidding. Sort of. Anyway, you should probably leave now if you want to get back by nightfall." Clove says.
Cato nods. "Alright. Look for me in the sky."
"Don't talk like that." She says, slightly annoyed. "You'll get back safely tonight." And then I'll take your life in vengeance for my brothers death. She thinks.
"I'll see you soon." He grabs his sword and backpack and heads out, leaving Clove with nothing to do.
To consume her time, Clove decides to hunt nearby the camp. She comes back with two rabbits and a squirrel. She cooks them and stores them away for later. Clove leans against a tree and takes a small nap. When she wakes up, the sun was close to setting. Anxiously, she waits for Cato's unsure, unsure why she was feeling nervous for him.
