╰───────┄ °❀In the morning, Clove finds herself twisted in her bedsheets, securely wrapped in Cato's arms, with the lingering smell of roses in the air. She tightens her grip around his waist, unwilling to let him go again. After a failed attempt of trying to fall back asleep, Clove lays there trying not to wake Cato.
Hibiscus knocks loudy on the door a few minutes later, letting them know in her irritating voice that it is time to get up. Cato slowly opens his blue eyes and shifts over to face Clove.
"Good morning." He yawns.
She grins. "Good morning. Tired?"
He nods slightly. "Very."
"We better get up before Hibiscus breaks the door down." Clove yawns and sits up.
Cato smiles. "Alright." He kisses her and picks up his shirt that was lying on the floor. "See you later."
"See you." She replies.
After a short breakfast, Clove's prep team and stylist come to get her ready for her last interview. She gets noticeably nervous a few minutes before they leave. "You'll do great." She hears Enobaria reassure her. "Just don't show any sort of affection for eachother." She instructs.
Clove nods. "Alright."
They make it to the interview room and see Caeser Flickerman sitting on a small couch. "Welcome you two! Are you excited?" He gestures for them to come over.
Cato and Clove take a seat next to him. "A little. Mostly nervous." Clove admits.
Caeser nods understandingly. "Don't worry, you'll do great. The interview will flash by quickly, believe me."
"We're going live in ten seconds!" A cameraman tells everyone. "Five..four..three.." He uses his fingers to signal a two and a one.
"Good morning and welcome!" Caeser begins. "I am here today with our newest Victors! Clove Kentwell and Cato Hadley! Welcome you two."
"Thank you Caeser." Cato nods.
"So Cato, my first question is for you. What went through your head when you volunteered?" He asks.
"My whole life I had been planning to Volunteer and win, so I was pretty excited." Cato replies.
The interview runs by quickly, with Cato and Caeser mostly talking, which relived Clove. But then Caeser turns to her. "Now Clove, the whole audience saw you attempt to kill Cato, and then try to save his life. I think I speak for everyone when I say I am confused?"
Anxiety sets in. "Well, uh, I guess I wanted to finish him off, not the mutts." She glares at Cato coldly, to convince everyone. "I'm still not sure what happened there, and it is definitely a miracle he is alive." She crosses her fingers and hopes that answer is enough for Caeser.
"Do you have any idea why you were both allowed to live?" Caeser persists. Not enough.
"No but maybe the Gamemakers wanted to try something new?" Clove guesses.
He nods and turns back to Cato to ask more questions. Before she knew it, the interview had ended. "You two did well. Have safe travels home and please don't kill eachother before the Victory Tour." Caeser jokes.
"No promises." Clove eyes Cato like a wild animal, ready to stab him. The two are escorted back to their apartment, where Hibiscus and their Mentors wait for them.
"It's time to go home!" Hibiscus exclaims.
Clove feels a weight being lifted off her chest, home! Family, her friends, no more Capitol or Games.
Home.
On the train ride back, she stares out the window. Enobaria joins her. "We need to talk."
Clove turns to her. "What's up?"
"Listen, the President is not happy with you. That little killing yourself stunt you pulled caused confusion and chaos. They were supposed to bring Cato back to life and leave you dead—call it a miracle he lived—but there was some sort of mix-up and you both allowed to live. You need to lie low and not do anything rash or stupid. Do you understand?" Enobaria pauses for a moment to let her words soak in. Clove feels the familiar feeling or anxiety come back into her body.
"Okay so I can't be seen with him? Is that what your saying?" Clove asks.
"Clove." Enobaria sounds urgent.
"What?" A sense of dread crosses her mind.
She takes a deep breath.
"They killed your family."
