Not seeing someone you've grown close to for a few days is nothing. Maybe even a week. A few weeks makes it feel unreal but a full month feels so uncanny that you can't even believe you've made it this far without seeing that person.

Touching that person.

Trinity's eyes stared at the text message on her phone from the deleted number she memorized a few months ago with the simple words of "Happy Birthday. Enjoy it."

No emojis. No exclamation marks. No extra words, just straight to the point.

She actually couldn't remember when she enjoyed a birthday. Last birthday, she and Siren spent in Los Angeles. Nothing special, just dinner and the beach.

She didn't really know what to expect out of this one.

Her life did a complete 180 within the past year than she was expecting.

And she didn't know if it was good or bad.

"Trinity?" Trinity looked up at the woman hovering above her table and she could feel her nerves rise. She was a copy and paste of her, just twenty years older. "You look... exactly like me when I was your age, wow."

"Hm," Was all Trinity said making her laugh. She took the seat across from her, settling in.

"Well, first. Happy Birthday, I mean another year around the sun is amazing and you look great."

"How'd you find me?" She wanted to get straight to the point. Fuck the small talk and the potential bonding.

Charity, Trinity's biological mother hence the name, sighed realizing she wasn't going to get anywhere with her even though she shouldn't be surprised. Trinity was more annoyed with her than she was with her father that she met last Thanksgiving.

"My husband watches football religiously. Any team and every game, he's tuned into it, so I seen you when you were trending everywhere for dating that football player in San Diego-"

"And that made you reach out to me?" She chuckled while crossing her arms over her chest and leaning back in her seat.

"Well, your my child-"

"That you gave up because I was conceived out of an affair." She let out a half-suppressed laugh along with a head shake. "That man gave you money for an abortion and you decided to still bring me into this world, just to give me up!?"

"I wasn't ready-"

"And I was?!" Trinity's voice got slightly loud catching the attention of everyone else in the cafe making her take a deep breath in, calming her nerves. "You married, probably got more kids so leave me alone, for real. I've been alone for 26 years already, I can continue on being alone."

"But don't think I haven't thought about you, Trinity. For 26 years, I thought about you! I always celebrated your birthday wondering how you were doing in this world and clearly your doing fine-"

"You can think that but you don't know me," She answered, "I look like I'm fine but I've been through the worst hell you can't even imagine, thanks to you." And Charity stared at her daughter with the most sorrow expression. Trinity couldn't do anything but chuckle and collect her bag and phone standing up from the table. "I gotta go and I don't have the mental stability to have this conversation right now."

"You have my number." Charity spoke up and Trinity rolled her eyes. "Don't be scared to use it."

All she could do is hum in response before turning away and walking out the cafe. She was only in LA for the next 48 hours as Stephen wanted her to celebrate her birthday out here instead of San Diego.
