CHAPTER 9

The contest had started, and we were up next, narinig kong kinakabahan ang iba naming kasama.

We were just in the backstage area, watching our rival group's performance.

Habang pinagmamasdan ko sila, I could say they were good—very good.

Their voices remained stable despite their exhausting dance moves, pulido rin ang bawat galaw nila.

I watched silently until Vin suddenly whispered to me.

“Pre, sila Klea, ayon.”  He pointed with his lips, and I followed his gaze at kumunot ang noo ko.

I saw Klea's group in the front row, marami sila ang nasa unahan.

She really was beautiful, that's why Vin has a crush on her.

We were at another university because this was where the contest was being held.

Medyo malayo rin ‘to sa university namin, at hindi na rin kami nag-expect na may manunuod galing sa university namin, but there were a lot of students who were wearing our school uniform.

I didn't expect the support looking at the banners that they made.

There were many students watching, and the stadium was packed, halos wala kanang makitang bakanteng upuan.

I could feel the tension in the air—a mix of excitement and nervousness.

The stage lights were bright, as if all eyes were fixed there.

I also noticed the other contestants preparing and practicing their steps repeatedly, habang kami ay nakamasid lang sa mga kalaban namin.

I heard some laughter from the side and saw a group of cheerleaders practicing.

Kita ko rin kung paano ang iba kong mga kasama mamangha sa galaw ng mga kalaban namin.

Occasionally, there were shouts of support from the audience, lalo na ang naunang grupo, maraming sigawan kaming naririnig mula sa eskwelahan nila and I could hear people whispering.

Halo-halo na ang mga estudyante na nandito.

The smell of sweat and cologne mingled in the air, na nagpadagdag sa tension ng mga kalahok, reminding me how important this moment was for all of us.

As the rival group continued their performance.

I noticed the judges in the front, nakatuon rin ang tingin ko sa kanila kung paano nila basahin ang bawat galaw ng mga kalahok, their faces serious, holding pens and papers.

They scrutinized every move and every note. It was intimidating, but we had to face it.

Finally, the rival group finished their performance, kami na ang susunod na magtatanghal.

The audience clapped, and some even shouted their support na mas lalong nagpakaba sa iba kong mga kasama.

I could hear their whispers about our rivals  performances, alam kong magaling sila and now it was our time.

I took a deep breath and looked at Vin and the rest of our group.

“Are you ready?” I asked them.

They all nodded, determination clear in their eyes.

“Let's do this,” I whispered to myself as we stepped onto the stage.
