CHAPTER 12

It was already late at night, and there were only a few people left on the street.

The cold breeze touched my skin, and I felt the chill with every breath. When I reached the place where I usually see the old lady, no one was there, bihira rin ito daanan ng tao dahil sa tarik ng daan.

I knew I wouldn't see her now because it was too late, but I was hoping that maybe I would find her here.

I decided to speed up my motorcycle and scoured the entire street where I usually see the old lady, dumaan rin ako sa kung saan siya palaging dumadaan na kalsada.

I rode through every corner and turn, with my motorcycle's light illuminating the road ahead. I started asking the people I passed by.

I even asked a group of teenagers huddled by the side of the road, but none of them knew who I was talking about. Not a single person had seen the old lady I described, halos lahat sila ay hindi nila alam kung sino ang matandang tinutukoy ko.

As time went on, I felt my hope fading.

I looked up and noticed that there were no stars in the sky, reminding me that I should head home. I sighed deeply, feeling the weight of the air I was breathing.

While driving home, the streets were quiet, and the only sound I could hear was the rhythm of my heartbeat and the noise of my motorcycle.

Every second brought back memories and questions swirling in my mind. Even after I reached my house, I couldn't stop thinking about everything.

Many questions kept running through my head. Why hadn't anyone seen her? Were my memories real, or had I imagined everything?

I sat down on my sofa, staring into space for a long time, desperately searching for answers to the mysteries that haunted me.

Pumasok ako sa kwarto ko at kinuha ang kwintas, my name was engraved in the back of the pendant. I can still remember what the old lady said.

Maybe tomorrow I can see her where I always saw her pushing her cart.

I woke up to the loud sound of my alarm. I quickly reached for the alarm clock beside me and turned it off.

I lay on my back, stretching my arms and legs on the bed.

I opened my eyes and stared at the ceiling. I stayed in that position for a few minutes before deciding to get up.

I immediately went to the bathroom to take a shower. As part of my usual routine, I turned up the volume of my speaker and started singing along to every lyric of the song playing.

I lost track of time while in the shower and finally decided to get out because I still had to go to school.

I hurriedly put on my uniform and looked in the mirror to fix the earring on the side of my lip. I also put on the necklace. I stared at the pendant for a minute before leaving the house.

I got my phone, put it in my pocket, and stepped outside. I put on my earbuds and started walking to school.

I walked through the place where I always saw the old lady. Even though this was not my usual path to school, I took it this way, hoping I might see her this morning.

Masyadong malayo ang daan na ‘to papasok sa eskwelahan, but I didn't mind.

I looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of the old lady, but she wasn't there. Maybe I will see her later.

I hurried to school because I was running out of time. Also, I had not had any breakfast, hoping that my first class wouldn't appear so I could eat breakfast in the cafeteria.

I lowered my earbuds volume as I walked in the corridor.

I saw many students still outside their classrooms. I looked at my watch and saw that there were a few minutes left before the first class started, but pinagdadasal ko pa rin na hindi pumasok ang first class namin.

As I walked closer to our classroom, Vin quickly approached me. He was running towards me, waving and smiling.

“I have good news, napili tayo para mag-guest sa isang channel!” he said excitedly as he got closer.

I turned off my music, looked at him, and nodded.

“Yan lang reaction mo?” he asked, looking puzzled.

“What?” I replied, my hands in my pockets.

“Hindi kaba masaya? o hindi ka man lang nagulat kasi nasa tv na tayo? ‘yan lang talaga reaction mo?” he asked in disbelief.

“Do I need to jump for joy?” I asked back, which made him take a deep breath.

“Ewan ko sayo, tara na, darating na ‘yung dragon,” he said, grabbing my jacket and pulling me towards the classroom. I just followed him and sat down.

“Ang yaman mo, pero buraot ka” he said, looking at me as I chewed.

I shrugged and smiled. “What can I say? Your food tastes better.” Vin shook his head, but he couldn't help smiling back.

As we settled into our seats, I glanced around the classroom. The other students were chatting and laughing, some still standing near the door.

Our professor had not arrived yet, so we had a bit more time. I looked out the window, thinking about the old lady again.

Maybe later? I thought to myself, maybe I will see her. Vin nudged me with his elbow, bringing me back to the present.

“Nakikinig kaba sa akin?” he asked.

“Yeah, yeah. The big event. I got it,” I replied.

“‘Yung activities sabi ko, ipapasa na ‘yon mamaya, pakopya,” he said, looking more serious now.

I just nodded, realizing that we had a lot of work ahead of us.

“Tangina, lutang ampota, sa iba na nga ako kokopya,” he said as he stood up.
