CHAPTER 20
Mamaya-maya pa ay dumating naman si Ace. “Nandito ka lang pala, kanina pa kita hinahanap, ang mga gamit mo nasa kwarto mo na, p'wede kana magpahinga,” he said, standing beside me.
“Ano ba talaga ang nangyayari?” I asked suddenly, my voice trembling. I had so many questions in my head that I didn't even know where to start.
He looked at me with a mix of concern and irritation. “Hindi kita maintindihan, Jix. Ano ba talaga ang nangyayari sa'yo?” he asked, sounding more annoyed.
“Kung pinagti-tripan mo man ako ngayon, pwes, panalo kana! alam mo? gusto kitang suntukin ngayon sa mukha!” He shouted, pushing me before walking away.
I heard a woman’s voice. I could also hear the sound of her heels clicking as she walked toward me. I didn't respond and remained slumped on the floor.
“Masasanay ka rin,” she said, reaching out and holding my arms to help me up. She had lifted me effortlessly.
I glanced at her well-shaped body. She didn't seem to have the strength to lift me like that. She was slightly taller than me, and if you looked at her, she appeared like a model with her height and physique, masyado siyang payat para mabuhat ako.
My heart pounded when I realized she was the woman I saw at the school, the one wearing a winter outfit even though it was extremely hot outside.
She was wearing a stylish dress now, fitting her form perfectly. Her hair was neatly styled, and her makeup was flawless, making her look even more striking. Mas maganda pala siya sa malapitan.
I couldn’t shake the image of her in that thick coat on such a hot day, hindi ko alam kung anong meron sa araw na ‘yon, and it seemed so out of place.
There was something about her that was different, something that didn’t quite add up, and it made my heart race even more.
“Are you okay?” she asked, her voice soft but carrying a hint of concern. Her eyes, sharp and piercing, seemed to look right through me.
“I’m.... fine,” I stammered, still trying to process everything.
She let go of my arms and stepped back, giving me space.“Good,” she said, her smile never fading.
“Welcome!” She said and walked out.
I couldn't understand what was happening. Everything felt so chaotic that it seemed like I was about to go crazy. I ate quietly while the others chatted around the dinner table.
“May guesting tayo sa susunod na araw,” a woman suddenly interjected into the conversation, causing everyone to pause.
“I know you all just came back from vacation, pero hindi ko rin inaasahan ang tawag, hindi na rin ako makahindi,” she added. The others nodded in agreement.
“At kailangan rin nating mag perform,” she continued.
“maayos na ba ang balikat mo, Jix?” a man sitting next to Ace asked me. I frowned at his question. Anong balikat? Maayos naman ang balikat ko.
“Huh?” I asked, not understanding what he meant since my shoulder was fine.
“Mukhang magaling naman na siguro si jix, right, jix?” the woman interrupted, smiling at me.
“Y-yeah, I'm fine,” I stammered. They all nodded at my response and resumed eating.
I glanced at the woman, and she was looking at me too. She smiled, but there was something strange about it.
I decided to ignore it and continued eating quietly, may pagnakaw tingin rin akong ginagawa sa kanila, habang tahimik na kumakain at pinag-aaralan ang kanilang bawat galaw.
After we finished eating, I asked Ace to show me to my room. Nagtataka man ay pumayag naman ito agad.
“You're so weird,” he said to me before leaving.
I pushed them aside and looked around the room. It was much bigger than my room at home. There were also pictures hanging on the walls—photos of me with the people I had just eaten with.
In one picture, I had my arm around Ace. Everything felt strange to me, wala man lang akong natatandaan sa mga ‘to, so I opened the closet to put away some of my things.
The items in the closet matched what I used at home, pati na rin ang mga ginagamit ko sa katawan ay parehas rin sa ginagamit ko sa bahay. My phone buzzed, and I quickly pulled it out of my pocket.
I got a notification from social media. When I opened it, I saw mentions congratulating me on my recovery. This only confused me more. I quickly left the room and went looking for Ace’s room.
She was wearing a sweatshirt and pajama pants, with headphones on her head, and carrying a water bottle.
She smiled when our eyes met and stopped in front of me.
“Saan ka pupunta?” she asked, taking off her headphones and smiling at me. I suddenly remembered seeing her at my school.
“It feels so weird, all of this. I don’t remember anything. Ikaw, kayo, lahat hindi ko maalala, ikaw, naalala kong nakita kita sa eskwelahan ko. I’m sure of it. Ikaw ‘yung babae noong araw na iyon. Tell me, what’s going on? I know something is wrong here. Lahat ay sariwa pa sa utak ko,” I said directly to her, my eyes fixed on hers.
“I don't know what you're talking about, baka ay napagod ka lang kanina sa biyahe,” she replied and kissed me on the forehead.
“Get some rest, lil bro, maiintindihan mo rin lahat, may practice pa tayo bukas, magpahinga kana” she added before walking away. I stood there, staring at her back, feeling more confused than ever.
Her casual dismissal of my concerns did nothing to ease my mind. How could everyone act like this was normal when everything felt so off to me?
