CHAPTER 25

My hands were sweating, and I couldn't explain what was happening. It was Klea and Vin. I couldn't be mistaken.

I had no memory of my life, not a single clue.

Out of frustration, I punched the car window, causing it to crack and my hand to bleed. My white shirt got stained with blood, but I didn't care. I just sighed heavily.

After a while, the others arrived and got into the car. Ace quickly noticed the blood on my shirt and panicked. He grabbed my hand, inspecting the injury.

I didn't even realize we had arrived back at my room until we were already there.

“You need to rest,” they told me before leaving my room. I threw myself onto the bed, staring at the ceiling.

I looked at my bandaged hand. Wala man lang akong naalala.

I took off my necklace and stared at it. The pendant was a thirty-second note symbol, and on the back was my name engraved mabilis naman akong tumayo sa kama at lumabas ng kwarto, ilang katok ang ginawa ko bago ako pagbuksan ni Ace ng pinto.

“What are you doing here?” he asked. “You should be resting.” habol pa nito.

“Isn't this your necklace?” I asked, showing him the necklace.

He narrowed his eyes, examining it.

“No?” he replied, though it sounded more like a question, and he seemed unsure of his answer.

“What?” I asked, confused.

“No, that's not mine. I haven't even made the necklace I designed yet— and yes, this was my design,” he said, inspecting the necklace in my hand.

“How?” He continued to look at it closely.

“No one has seen my design yet, not even you, wala pang nakakakita sa design na ginawa ko because it'll be a surprise gift for you, and the engraving? It's exactly how I wanted it.” Wika nito habang mas lalong binubusisi ang kwintas.

I took out my phone and opened the gallery filled with pictures of us, looking for a photo where Ace was wearing the necklace.

I searched through the photos, but there wasn't a single picture of Ace wearing the necklace. I clearly remembered seeing him wear it before I went to sleep that night. How could this be?

“I remember seeing you wearing this necklace in every photo,” I said to Ace.

“How is it possible that it's not in any of these pictures?”

Ace sat down beside me, his expression serious.

“Are you sure you saw it?” he asked gently.

“Yes, I'm sure,” I insisted, feeling a headache coming on from the confusion.

“I remember it so clearly.”

Ace sighed, rubbing his temples.

“This is strange,” he admitted.

“But it feels so real,” I said, clutching the necklace tightly.

Ace put a reassuring hand on my shoulder.

“Let's take it one step at a time. We'll look into this together. For now, try to rest. Your hand needs to heal, and you need to clear your head, magpahinga kana.”

I just nodded, and Ace helped me back to my room, and I lay down on my bed, still clutching the necklace. He stayed with me until I calmed down, then quietly left.

As I stared at the ceiling, the events of the night replayed in my mind. The necklace, the pictures, the missing memories—it all swirled together in a confusing mess.

“I wish I could return to the last day I closed my eyes.”

I groggily sat up in bed, feeling disoriented from waking up so suddenly because I needed to use the bathroom. I rubbed my eyes, forced myself to get up, and made my way to the bathroom to relieve myself.

“Ouch,” bulong ko habang hinihimas ang noo dahil tumama sa kung saang kanto. I slowly opened my eyes to see what I had bumped into, and to my surprise, I found myself in a different room. I looked around in disbelief, trying to make sense of it.

I was at home, but I couldn't remember coming back here with Ace last night. The last thing I remembered was being in his room, then going back to my room with him at iyon lang ang natatandaan ko bukod do'n.

I quickly grabbed my phone to call Ace and ask why I was here, but I couldn't find his number. In fact, all the numbers of our friends were missing too.

As I scrolled through my contacts, I noticed Vin's number and saw that I had a few missed calls from him. It was only 5:00 in the morning, but I dialed his number anyway, hoping he could explain what was going on.

Vin answered groggily, his voice thick with sleep.

“Langya naman, Jix— ang aga pa para tumawag, bakit kaba tumawag?” His response left me even more confused.

“What the fuck?” I muttered under my breath, unable to comprehend the situation.

“Tumawag ka ng ganito kaaga para lang murahin ako? Seriously— man, go back to sleep, lakas ng trip mo, matutulog pa ako,” he said before hanging up on me.

I quickly washed my face in the sink and stared at my reflection in the mirror, trying to make sense of what was happening.

Was my life with Ace a dream, or was this reality? I took a deep breath and went back to bed, grabbing the necklace beside my pillow.

I examined the pendant, noticing a golden hue that hadn't been there before.

I was still puzzled. I checked my phone again and scrolled through social media to see if there were any clues about what was happening.

But there were no signs of Ace anywhere, not even in my photos. I feel overwhelmed, I lay in bed for a while, unable to figure out what was real.

I decided to take a shower to clear my head. I turned up the volume on the speaker and let the music fill the bathroom as I showered.

After getting dressed in my uniform, I left for school. As usual, I walked with earbuds in my ears, listening to music, and some students greeted me while others whispered behind my back, but I was used to it, wala namang bago.

As I walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, and I kept replaying the events of the morning in my head, trying to find any clue that could help me understand what was happening, para akong nasisiraan ng bait sa mga nangyayari.
