"I know you're sleeping with Soul just to make me jealous,"
I stared at the floor, unable to believe my ears. "Are you crazy?" I finally snarled.
"You tell me. We both know Souls not your type,"
Now I turned to face Kid, "And since when do you decide what my type is?"
"Because your type is me—at least it used to be. Soul is my friend, I don't want him getting hurt,"
"He won't get hurt,"
"I know...because I want you back,"
Now I laughed, harshly, "You want me back? Oh, lucky me!"
Kid bristled, "Well, you don't have to be rude."
"Thanks for the offer," I continued, "But I think I'm just fine where I'm at."
I stormed off to my room. By the time Kid and I met up with the others, we both acted like nothing happened, except for the avoiding each others eyes and not speaking directly to the other. I was very grateful that I didn't see him the rest of the evening or the next morning when I met up with Soul for more lessons.
"Something bothering you?" Soul asked as we rode the chair lift. We were going to try a real hill today.
"Fine. Just nervous," I lied.
"You're doing good. I'll be right next to you, so don't worry. This'll be cool,"
We strapped our boards on our feet at the top and turned to face the hill. Maybe I wasn't lying after all.
"I don't know about this, Soul," I moaned.
"You got this. Just hang onto me," he grasped my forearms with steady, mittened hands and I clung back with more trembling fingers.
I've fought kishins and witches! I can slide down a stupid mountain!
"Okay, let's go,"
We started sliding slowly, then picked up speed more and more. Event though all my clothes and goggles, I could feel the cold wind. I was screaming in delight.
"This is great!"
"You're doing amazing!...Okay, I'm letting go of you,"
"What?! No, don't let go! Soul, don't let go!"
But he had. My arms flailed for a moment, not knowing what to do with themselves, then I calmed down. Soul stayed only a few feet away. I tried to mimick him, his back and forth swaying. I was doing it!
Then I was falling.
I heard Soul yell my name before I registered anything. I don't even think I screamed as I face planted into the snow and tumbled head over board. Then everything went black.
When I woke up, I just felt grateful that I was still, even though everything seemed to be spinning—my feet still strapped to the board, the tree I was leaning against. I sat up, expecting Soul to be right beside me, but I was alone. I had landed myself in a heavily wooded area.
I pulled myself to my feet and tried to walk, but with the snowboard still attached, it quickly became frustrating. I detached my feet and abandoned it in the snow—too sore and panicky to care.
"Soul!" I cried out.
"Over here," came his voice.
"You shouldn't have let go of me, dumbass," I said, following his voice with relief.
"Yeah, sorry. Guess you weren't ready,"
I pushed my way between two trees, and into a clearing, coming face to face with "Soul."
Except it wasn't Soul.

Y/N had vanished into the trees. Soul skidded to a stop, calling her name again.
"Soul?!" she sounded close to tears, "I think I broke my leg."
Guilt hit him like a brick. Dammit.
He bent down and started detaching his board, "Hang on, I'm coming."
He darted into the trees, only to come upon a black swirling cloud of smoke. "Y/N?"
"Soul?!" the cloud screamed, vibrating with the sound.
A trick.
"No. No!"

I threw another kick. It connected with the witches stomach and as she doubled over I swung at her with my knife. She deflected it with her magic, throwing me far and landing hard.
"Stupid meister. You have no chance without a real weapon,"
I was struggling to my feet. She was winding up another magic blast, the energy ball swelling larger and larger in front of her. Before I could react, she fired. I threw my arms over my head, but the blast struck something in front of me with a Clang!
I opened my eyes to see Soul in front of me, panting, holding up one arm in the form of his blade, and looking furious.
"You shouldn't have let go of me, dumbass!" I tried again.
"Seriously? You're gonna nag on me now!?"
"Well, you gonna transform or what?"
"My pleasure," Soul glowed, before jumping into my hand as a scythe.
The witch just laughed and prepared another blast.
