And just like that six months flew by. Work was the same, but now I put up with Maka and Ruby's constant teasing about me and Soul. Our relationship slowly started to simmer down to movies or video games on the weekends with pizza. Before I knew it I was seeing him almost every day. A few times I got lunch or coffee with Crystal and sometimes Mrs E came along too. Then soon enough our gang was feeling another vacation was in order.
"Paris?" Maka echoed excitedly.
"It's perfect. What do you guys say?" Kid asked.
"Me and Tsubaki are being sent on a giant mission," Black Star pouted, "For once I wish we didn't have serious ass to kick."
"Just as well, I don't want you destroying anything," Kid grimaced, "The rest of you?"
"I dunno, Kid," said Ruby, "That airfares going to be expensive and I don't have much to spare."
"No one will have to pay airfare. We'll take my private jet,"
"What?!" cried everyone in unison except me.
"Kid, you have a private jet?!" Soul balked.
"You didn't know that?" I asked.
He shook his head, along with Ruby chiming in, "None of us did! You were dating him and sleeping on the fact that he had a private jet? What kind of friend are you?!"
"It wasn't my jet,"
"So is it settled?" Kid butted in, steering the conversation back, "We're all going to Paris next week?"
We all agreed, then the conversation turned to other things.
Soul dropped me off at my apartment that night. He was walking to the door when I abruptly asked,
"Soul...do you ever think about where you'd be if it weren't for the DWMA?"
"Sometimes I guess. You?"
"Yeah, I suppose I'd still become an emancipated minor. Probably get some stupid teen job. Hopefully I'd score a job at a bookstore or something, but I know I wouldn't've finished high school—and well, I would definitely have served some jail time by now,"
We had reached the door. "Y/N, can I ask...what happened to your folks?" Soul asked.
I frowned, "I don't know. I've just never had any. I was handed between foster homes. I don't know if it was fate or I was just unlucky, but they kept meeting terrible fates until the academy noticed me...Where do you think you'd be?"
Soul sighed and shrugged, "I probably would have ditched my family still. And I'd just be a guy working at McDonalds or something who can turn into a scythe. Be a cool trick for parties and stuff. By the way, don't have time turn into a scythe when I'm drunk—not a good idea. You can ask Black Star about his missing toe."
I laughed, "I know we wouldn't have met."
"That's true. Thank goodness for the DWMA then."

At the appointed day and time, we all met at the airport, swerving around the security and crowds and heading straight to the airstrip where the private jet awaited. I waited for the other to finish gawking before we boarded. Kid and the Thompson sisters were already on board.
"Welcome, mon amis!" Kid cried, "Can I get you all a drink?"
"Champagne please," I said as Soul and I settled on one leather sofa.
"Ooh, me too please," said Maka.
"Ruby's not here yet?" Liz asked.
"Nope,"
"She's supposed to be bringing her boyfriend," said Patty, "I can't wait to meet him!"
"Me too!" I said, "I don't think anyone has."
They all agreed they hadn't before Maka said, "Well, you four had better keep the canoodling to a minimum."
"Can't promise anything," I joked. Luckily Liz chimed in,
"Come on, Maka. It's the city of love!"
"I don't see you bringing along a boyfriend," she shot back.
"I'm hoping to find a sexy French guy to have a fling with," she bit her bottom lip.
"Hoping to take a bite out his baguette?" I offered.
They all moaned, while Soul looked around, "What?"
"Seriously?" Liz asked, "You haven't noticed? With the bad puns and innuendos?"
"They're not all bad," I whimpered, before Soul burst out laughing,
"Oh, you mean your little jokes. I like those actually. They're cute. Like when you tell me to stab you with my blade,"
He said the last part in hushed tones, but so that everyone could still hear. I burned red. What's worse is Kid chimed in behind me,
"Yeah, I thought they were cute too. 'You're to die for.' That was my favorite,"
I whirled on him, "'How do you feel about a boob job? I'll pay for it.' I think that was my favorite of your little sayings."
Kid looked like he'd been slapped, while Soul shook his head, "Dude, not cool."
"You've seen her boobs, you know they're not even," he said through gritted teeth. Each word made me want to vanish into the leather.
"Boobs are boobs!"
"But boobs that are two different sizes—!"
"Ah, and that would be Kids dulcet tones," came Ruby's voice right before she appeared in the door, looking mortified, considering a tall guy with dark hair stood behind her, "Kevin, this is Maka, Soul, Y/N. Liz and Patty, and Death the Kid."
Kid gave an apologetic grin, "Um...hi."
"Hey,"
"Guys, this is my boyfriend, Kevin,"
We settled in, and soon after the plane took off, Ruby left to the bathroom. Kevin turned to us, "So, help me out here guys. What is it you all do? Ruby won't tell me much."
"So you don't know Ruby's a—" Soul started before I kicked him in the shin under the table,
"We work for a nonprofit."
"Right," Soul agreed catching on. Maka continued,
"Lots of behind the scenes stuff to keep Death City running safely."
"Okay..."
At that moment, Ruby came back, "What are we talking about?"
"Nothing much, babe," he kissed her on the cheek before going to the bathroom himself.
"You guys didn't tell him anything, right?" Ruby asked, in a hushed tone.
"No," Maka said, stiffly.
"What's your problem?"
"Something about Kevin doesn't sit right with me,"
"What?!"
"Did you look at his soul?" Soul asked, seriously.
"Yeah,"
"And?"
Before she answered, Ruby snapped, "You did not seriously look at his soul?"
"I didn't see anything amiss..."
"Obviously. Come on, Maka, don't you trust me. I'm not exactly some novice over here,"
"Of course, I trust you, Ruby, and I know you're not a novice, but—"
She was cut off by Kevin coming back. Ruby gave Maka a long, warning glare. Feigning casual, Maka asked, "So Kevin, where'd you say you were from?"

The sun was nearly set by the time we reached Paris, and we were all exhausted, so we went straight to our hotel and crashed. I shared a room with Maka, Soul with Kid, the Thomson sisters were together of course, and Ruby with her boyfriend again of course.
The next morning, Maka and I were awoken by frantic knocking. I dragged myself out of bed and answered it, tempted to knock the lights out of whoever dared wake us. The moment I turned the door knob, Kid barged the rest of the way in,
"Okay, ladies, we have a big itinerary and—you're both still in bed!?"
"It's seven am, Kid," Maka moaned, emerging from the covers only far enough to check her phone and retreat again.
"I know, so we are behind. We should be setting out for the Louvre at seven thirty, so-Chop. Chop."
He sped back out of the room, Soul floating in on his wake, half-asleep, "Morning."
"Morning, hon," I kissed him, while Maka muttered something incomprehensible, "How's your morning been?"
He gave me a shit-eating grin, "I might murder him before noon."
While I went into the bathroom, Maka stuck her face out just long enough to offer, "I might beat you to it."
The day consisted of museums and lots of shopping, eating, and picture taking. Kid tried to keep us on a strict schedule, and was inevitably thwarted again and again.
"I'm just trying to give everyone a great experience, you know. See everything that is to see," Kid was complaining to Soul that night.
Soul sat on his bed, flicking through the TV channels, "Sure, but you don't have to be a hard-ass about it."
"Hey, I'm not being a—" he was interrupted by aggressive knocking on their door. He opened it, just for Ruby to rush in,
"Kid, oh my gosh, I'm freaking out," she panted, "I think—I think the Arc de Triomphe isn't symmetrical!"
"Ruby, that's crazy. Of course it is. We just saw it,"
She sighed, "Oh, okay. Whew. Thanks, Kid."
"Sure," he watched her leave, before turning to Soul. They looked each other in the eye for a solid five seconds, before Kid bolted for the door, "I just have to double check!"
Two minutes later, Y/N slipped in. Soul burst out laughing, "You put Ruby up to that?!"
"I just told her to get Kid out of here. Why? What'd she say?"
He told her, finishing with, "She's kinda cruel."
"When she wants to be, but it worked, didn't it?" she came over to the bed, straddling Soul and pushing him back onto the bed,
"Alone at last."
