to The House that Built Me

When Baby and I made it back to Texas and got to Round Rock, I felt my heart constrict slightly as I looked at the quiet little town.

It had been so long since I'd been back here.

Baby was slow to drive through as we looked around, and I murmured quietly, wringing my hands as I glanced at the run-down buildings and the people walking around without a care in the world.

"It's so strange to be back here."

"Still looks the same too. Look, there's Mrs. Marie and her hideous knight standing guard outside her shop."

We both chuckled as we passed the old lady who was decorating her knight of armor, and Baby slowed down when he hummed.

"I'm not getting any readings. What about you?"

I sighed and closed my eyes, focusing as I imagined the whole town to be like a grid. However, as I swept through, I hummed and replied.

"I got nothing."

Baby hummed before he murmured gently.

"Alright, hang on tight. I've got an idea."

I nodded, and Baby began to drive. As he drove, everything began to get more familiar, and I widened my eyes at a very familiar house up on a hill, my adrenaline beginning to pump. I whispered gently.

"Baby, this is..."

"I know."

When Baby drove up to the house, I noticed that the birdhouse mailbox Mom had placed was still there, only there was a little sign on top that read 'Yeager Robotics'. We got closer until we pulled in beside a truck, and when I stepped out of the vehicle, a robotic dog came up to the door, barking and growling. It wasn't a Cybertronian, but instead just a regular little invention.

"Intruder, Intruder! 911 has been called."

Came the recorded voice, and a man stepped out, looking a bit confused as he greeted me.

"Hi, can I help you?"

My cheeks went hot with embarrassment, and I wrung my hands nervously. From Behind me, I could feel Baby pushing his energy towards me, encouraging me to speak as the man raised an expectant eyebrow.

"Hi, I'm so sorry that this is random, and this is probably going to sound really crazy...but um, I used to live here before the first war in Chicago...I was in the area, and I thought I would stop by to see how the house was doing."

The man's eyes lit up a little bit, and he encouraged me, gesturing me to the porch swing that was still hanging up on the end of the porch.

"Oh, no, please. You must be...uh, (Y/n) Winchester, was it?"

My eyes lit up, and I nodded.

"Yes, that's me. How did you know?"

The man chuckled and explained, shrugging a little as he sat down on a chair just beside the porch swing.

"Well, there was a lot of stuff that was left here when my daughter and I moved in. I packed it all up in a little box that's in the barn right now if you wanted it. I didn't really have the heart to sell anything."

The man held his hand out, and I shook it as he introduced himself.

"Cade Yeager, maybe you've heard of me?"

"Well, if your sign out front says anything, I'd say you're an inventor."

Cade laughed sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
