The air was hot and dry, a contrast to the a/c that usually ran in the house, and when my eyes fluttered awake, I realized that I wasn't at my home with my family. Instead, I was lying on a dusty couch within the cluttered and abandoned looking store.

Cade was sitting next to me, eyes cast down at the floor and arms crossed, looking lost in thought. There was dried blood coating his shirt, a smear against his cheek as if he had tried to wipe away sweat and instead wiped my blood on. Grunting gently, the noise had caught Cade's attention, and he scooted closer, asking.

"Hey, welcome back. You...you feeling alright?"

I sat up slowly, Cade looking uncomfortable as I did, and I glanced down to see the stitches redone, bandages wrapped around my shoulder and tummy, and I glanced back up at Cade, asking him.

"Did you...do this?"

Cade looked sheepish, saying.

"Well, Tessa redid the stitches...she's always had better accuracy than I did...but I did bandage you up and got the bleeding to stop. You've been passed out for a couple hours now."

I nodded gently, and I realized I felt nauseous. Humming softly, I gently rolled my shoulder, and I murmured softly.

"The wounds will probably be gone in a few days....shouldn't have to worry about them too much. Where's Optimus?"

"Still hasn't come back, and...Baby...is still outside. He was a big help in telling us what to do to save your life."

I chuckled gently, replying as Cade handed me a can of pork and beans.

"Sounds like him. I'm...sorry that you've been dragged into this, Cade. Now that you've seen Optimus and Cemetery Wind knows about you...you're gonna be made a target, as well as Tessa and Shane."

Cade's eyes softened, looking away and he nodded slowly after a moment.

"It's terrible that Lucas is gone...and if he hadn't called, I don't think any of this would have happened. I don't blame you, or Optimus, for what happened. I was honest when I said that I wanted to help."

I gazed long and hard at Cade, and Cade seemed to become uncomfortable after a moment, and I looked down into my can of food. I said gently.

"You're a brave man, Cade Yeager."

Cade had a strange look on his face, almost as if he was remembering something, and he looked back at Shane and Tessa, who both were sitting on the other side of the gas station and looking to be extremely uncomfortable as they both stayed far away from each other to appease Cade. I asked him softly.

"I'm guessing Shane and Tessa know each other well?"

Cade scoffed, muttering.

"Apparently, our Irish man is a driver from Texas and that's how he's been making his living. Races rally cars. Don't really care, he's not gonna be dating my daughter."

I snorted and murmured.

"To be fair, by the looks of it, they've been dating for a while. Tessa seems to have been doing fine. Give the boy a chance."

Cade squinted at me, and I shrugged.

"What? This is exactly what I would tell my Dad, and my Dad said he'd put any man that tried to ask me out into the closet to rot."

Cade nodded his head a little, raising his brows.

"Not a bad idea. But...I don't know if it'll matter. Tessa blames me for what's happened, especially to Lucas."
