As I was led through the hallway, I couldn't help but feel as though everyone was watching me; my skin crawling and making me tug the hem of my dress down a little more. When I made it to the dining room, Dylan was sitting at a seat, looking frustrated. His eyes met mine, and his face instantly lit up.
"Ah, there you are. I was thinking that you were about to skimp out on me. You look gorgeous."
I reluctantly gave him a hug, and I apologized profusely.
"I am so sorry. There was a lot of traffic, a wreck; it was a whole ordeal. I hope I didn't miss anything extremely important."
Dylan shook his head, a strange glint within his eyes.
"None at all. The party is now getting started with you here."
I chuckled nervously, and dinner commenced. As food was being brought out, I couldn't help but shiver as I sensed energon. There was a Cybertronian nearby...two...but I couldn't distinguish if it was Baby and Bee, or if they were Decepticons.
I did know, however, that I did not like it one bit.
Glancing around, I was almost embarrassed when I heard Dylan call my name.
"(Y/n), you look a bit distracted. Is everything alright?"
I swallowed before blurting out.
"Oh, me and Sam are having a bit of a spat. He doesn't like that I'm with you all the time."
I rubbed the back of my neck in embarrassment while Dylan laughed gently.
"Jealousy. It can be a very unbecoming emotion. My father taught me that if you want something, you never stop going after it no matter what."
Dylan looked me up and down with a smirk.
"Sam has the right idea."
I felt perturbed but hid it with a smile, stating truthfully.
"He just doesn't understand that there are some things about my life that I don't want to risk losing. I mean, I love working with you, and I love being here in the city. I take my working life very seriously, and I don't want to jeopardize it in any way. I can't just up and go with Sam every time he needs me."
Dylan suggested coolly.
"Perhaps, it would be best to cut loose ends, and instead cling to the stronger links within the chain."
Dylan took a sip of his wine as he gazed at me, and I bit my lip before shrugging.
"I don't know. I care about him. He just needs a little guidance is all."
Dylan hummed and stood up, glancing at a painting that was hanging above a fireplace.
"Look at this home that I bought. You know how I got all of this? By hard work and sacrifice. I sacrificed so much in the name of my legacy; my livelihood, that I now have everything I could want and more. It may come off as harsh, but if you want to secure the future, you need to let go of what holds you back in the past."
He turned to me, leaning down towards me.
"Let go of the weak, and cling to the strong. You, my Duchess, are worth more than someone who doesn't realize the amazing potential that is right in front of them."
I was flattered at the same time that I was weirded out. Shaking my head, I took a sip of wine and replied.
"I'm working on it. I promise."
Dylan then hummed and asked.
"Are you and Sam even together? Because if I were him, I wouldn't let you out of my sight for a single second. No, no, not with how precious you are."
