His First Mistake
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Author's POV
It took two days for him to arrive at Songak and now he was walking down the usual road. Jeongguk could see the palace even from far away and to say he was displeased was an understatement.
He took a deep breath before stopping in front of the big gates. And as if he knew someone was watching him or nature just wanted to let him know what he had been missing internally. He glanced upwards to his room and just like expected, Jimin was there. Looking at him with no feelings.
That stare…
It was almost too stoic. Almost too perfect.
Jeongguk could sense the determination behind them, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was. You know, that look when you would kill for something. That look when you would burn and take away people’s lives without a second thought. That look when you know you are going to be different than what others expected. That look when you were hiding yourself behind a mask… or was it? Jeongguk himself wasn’t convinced. After all, it was just his institution talking.
When it came to the older, he never could figure out what was going on inside the head. It was hard for him to read, he barely could collect the pieces of puzzles, and even more so to see the bigger picture. It was almost like he was blind.
Jimin looked different from the first time they met, or was it because he had never properly eyed his husband before? He doesn’t know the answer to that. Shivers ran through his back the longer he looked at the hollow eyes. The time was moving painfully slow it seemed, because Jeongguk swore they had been staring at each other longer than he could count. But that was just in his head.
Jimin broke a smile before disappearing from sight.
Soon, the gate opened wide for Jeongguk to enter and he did, stepping in with his horse further until he reached the opening of the palace. Yes, there were two entrances. The first was to inspect the visitors and take notes of their arrival in a record book so that if anything happened in the palace, they would have known a few names. And the second one, of course, was to drop off their horse if they had one.
He then watched as Jimin walked down the long stairs, wearing a blue sea Gujangbok. The older’s hair was, however, not properly styled in a man bun like a married man should. The hair was untied even. In the palace, the only thing that differentiates the taken and the single ones is their hair. Jeongguk raised his eyebrows at that, looking at his husband who was now walking towards him with a soft smile.
Almost too soft.
“Greetings, Your Highness. I’ve been waiting for you to come back.” Jimin greeted him, bowing a little as Jeongguk remained silent and hopped off the horse. He doesn't know what got into him but as much as he wanted to deny it, the way the older’s hair was styled bothered him. Maybe because somehow in some way, Jimin didn’t acknowledge his title as a married man or… Jimin didn't acknowledge him as his husband. A pang spread across Jeongguk’s chest at that thought.
“Why is your hair untied?” He raised a question, not waiting a second to get the pain out of his chest as he could only hope there was a proper justification behind the action. “Did you intend on shaming me, Park Jimin?” Jeongguk shot up a glare at him. Now he was being an asshole towards his husband. He was bitter with the older man just because he felt hurt and didn't want to admit it.
