Author's POV
Chung-cheon River… Jeongguk bit his lips at the name. He didn't know much about it but he knew his mother always told him to stay away from it. It was said to bring bad luck. Why? He didn't know or he either forgot it already. After all, he was only busy playing around during his childhood and ended up learning nothing. He was just lucky to be well-known regarding wars.
He sighed in frustration and closed the book he was reading. It was about psychology and honestly, Jeongguk didn't know why he needed to read this. It was useless…
“I should check up on Jimin.” He noted to himself, standing up and making his way to exit the room. It had been only three hours since he last saw Jimin, and he miserably missed the older one. He wondered if Jimin was still sleeping or already on his feet to do his things. Whichever it was, he needed to check up on his husband.
But the plan failed when he opened his door and met with a sight of Queen Choi, that too, about to enter his room. Before he could open his mouth, the woman was quick to act and make Jeongguk choke back on his words. A loud slap echoed the area as he glanced down, feeling the sting on his cheek.
“You disappointed me, Jeongguk!!” She hissed lowly, and turned to the side before making her way into his room. The crown prince remained his silent, closing the door and facing his angry mother.
“Where have you been since the morning?”
He bit his inner cheek at that question, knowing she would be angrier at what he was about to say. And even more if he tried to lie because usually, when the old woman asked him something, she already knew the actuality. She just wanted to see if he was being honest or rather lied to her. And just like every other good son, Jeongguk of course chose the right one.
“I went to the market… With Jimin.” He mumbled and received another slap. He gritted his teeth at that, making his veins start to appear around his neck.
“You carried him didn't you?!” She raised her voice and hit his chest, not hard enough to make him wince. “Since when did you started lower yourself for someone like him?!” She yelled and hit him again, harder this time. But Jeongguk remained unfazed, keeping up with her scoldings. He was no coward, he was just a gentleman. And he knew hurting his mother, or any woman in particular was not what he had been taught. No, he was greater than that.
“I told you to stay away from Jimin,” She cupped his face, her doe's eyes drowned in unshed tears and disappointment he had for his son. “Why? Why can't you listen to me? He's a bad luck Jeongguk.”
“He's not, Mom…” The Crown prince was quick to intervene, holding up his mother's hand. “You misunderstood him. I used to hate him too… You just need to give him a chance!!” He rushed, eyes dilated and glowed in hope. He knew that the Queen needed to be given the opportunity to know Jimin properly, that was the only way for her to realize that the older wasn't a bad guy nor did he was a bad luck.
“A chance? For what?” She asked coldly and snatched the hand Jeongguk was holding. She turned around, back facing him as she walked over to the open window. “Have you heard what that old hag said? About Heiora? About the possibility of your husband attacking your sister?” Jeongguk sighed at that, knowing where this was headed.
