Chapter 6

Nyrah's fingers tightened around the fabric of her black skirt, her knuckles turning white with tension. Shock rippled across her features, contorting them into a mosaic of conflicting emotions. Yet, amidst the turmoil, one sentiment reigned supreme: disbelief. It was a sensation beyond shock, bordering on incredulity, as Nyrah struggled to process the sight before her. Aston, her greatest nightmare incarnate, stood before her in the very same meeting room.

Unbeknownst to her, Aston was the elusive owner of Hammer Corporation, the hazel-eyed man that Liya had described. The realization struck Nyrah with a force akin to a thunderclap, sending waves of disbelief crashing over her. How could she have been so blind? How could she have failed to connect the dots until this moment?

Nyrah was caught in a whirlwind of astonishment and apprehension, uncertain of what this unexpected encounter would mean for her and the tumultuous history she shared with Aston Archer.

Aston strides into the meeting room, exuding confidence, and settles into the main seat at the head of the table. His assistant Darvin stands behind him with a notepad ready to capture every detail of the forthcoming discussion.

Aston, too, was shocked to see her there but maintained his composed facade, concealing the shock of Nyrah's unexpected presence. Behind his cold exterior, a whirlwind of questions and emotions swirled in his mind. Meanwhile, Darvin's confusion was palpable, unable to reconcile Nyrah's appearance with the disappearance of the heiress of the Alabaster empire four years prior. The atmosphere in the room crackled with unspoken tension and intrigue as the meeting unfolded.

Nyrah could sense Aston's penetrating gaze fixed on her, causing her to become increasingly self-conscious of her every movement and action. Despite her efforts to remain composed, his scrutiny weighed heavily on her, adding an extra layer of tension to the already charged atmosphere of the meeting. Each glance exchanged between them carried an unspoken tension, hinting at a history or connection that remained unresolved.

Soon, the meeting concluded on a positive note. As the attendees began to disperse, the lingering mysteries surrounding Nyrah's presence and Aston's reaction remained, adding an intriguing layer to the already complex dynamics at play.

Nyrah already knew what she had to do right at that moment: disappear from his sight. As everyone began to take their leave, Nyrah found an opportunity to flee the room when suddenly,

"I want to talk to Miss Nyrah in person," Aston said more like an order, making her boss quickly nod.

Caught off guard by Aston's unexpected request, Nyrah found herself cornered, her plans to slip away thwarted. Despite her desire to avoid further confrontation, she reluctantly acquiesced, her boss swiftly confirming her availability.

"Yes, Mr. Archer, she is here at your service," her boss said, not giving Nyrah a chance to protest. With little choice but to comply, Nyrah braced herself for the impending conversation, knowing that facing Aston directly may lead to more questions and complications she's not yet ready to confront.

As Aston's predatory steps drew closer, Nyrah's fear intensified, her body trembling with apprehension at the thought of potential harm. The silence of the vacant room amplified her anxiety, each footfall echoing like a foreboding drumbeat. With her back against the table, Nyrah's mind raced, searching for a means of escape or defense but feeling powerless in the face of Aston's imposing presence.

Locking her in place with his hands on the table behind her, he drew closer, smelling her like a hunter. She felt utterly disgusted, while he, on the other hand, felt weirdly satisfied. For him, it was like a struggling man finally breathing fresh air. Her lavender scent was an addiction, a cruel addiction. Her grey eyes were the epitome of beauty, and her body had grown more perfect than before. She had truly grown up into a more beautiful woman than before. He didn't want to admit it, but "Nyrah Alabaster is a sight to behold."

"Stay away from me, Aston," she demanded, putting aside her fear.

"Why, Nyrah? Don't you suppose to like it as you always loved me?" he whispered softly in her ear, causing goosebumps to appear on her skin and her heart to race. He still had that same effect on her even after all these years. "Aston Archer is a manipulative monster," she knew from the very start.

Looking him in the eyes, she clarified, "You are wrong, Aston. I don't love you." Aston became as angry as hell. What she said—the statement that she didn't love him—was something that hit his heart, awakening his inner monster, ready to lash out at her.

"Then why did you leave Elena dying there, Nyrah? You could have saved her if you wanted to, but you chose to simply run away from the scene," he roared directly at her face, making her cower a little.

A wave of sadness washed over her face. A drop of tear left her eyes as she watched him shamelessly accusing her once again. The fire of the past still burned high, leaving her in ashes.

"At least stop with these crocodile tears now, Nyrah. I've had enough of them," Aston spat, his eyes cold and unforgiving. Nyrah couldn't help but feel hurt at his assumptions. He had already declared her a killer in his eyes, so what use was there in explaining anything further to him?

With that, she tried to run towards the exit, but he caught her in his embrace again. His hands wrapped around her in an iron grip, making her struggles to get away in vain.

He leaned in closer, his breath hot against her ear. "You may have gotten away last time, but you can't escape from me this time. I swear on my dead Elena, Nyrah, I'll make you pay."
