Chapter 19

It's been a month and there's no sign of Nyrah in college. Aston tried calling her many times, but her phone was always switched off. He even visited her home, but the guards there said she had left the day everything happened. Consumed by guilt for falsely accusing her, Aston was desperate to apologize.

In an effort to right his wrongs, Aston shut down the rumors circulating around the college. He publicly admitted his mistake in pointing out the wrong culprit, hoping it would at least start to mend the damage done to Nyrah's reputation. However, the absence of any sign of her continued to gnaw at him, leaving him in a constant state of unease and remorse.

Elena finally recovered from all the physical injuries, but he couldn't say the same about her trauma.

Aston and Elena were sitting together as usual, having lattes in their favorite corner of the café. When his eyes caught the sight of Ruby and Monica and a sudden thought of asking them about Nyrah crossed his mind.

Although he despite both of them especially Ruby but having no other option he made his way towards them as they were his only hope for finding out Nyrah. Aston rose from his seat as he approached Monica and Ruby's table. Monica looked at Aston with confusion, but Ruby continued eating her pasta, not even caring to look his way.

"Where is Nyrah?" Aston asked directly, skipping any formalities or greetings.

"And why do you want to know about her? Or wasn't insulting her in front of the whole college enough?" Her mocking tone made Aston's anger flare. He had never liked her sharp tongue and taunting attitude.

"That doesn't change my question. Where is Nyrah?" He directed his gaze towards Monica, who was trying hard to avoid looking at him.

"She's in hell. Wanna go there?" Ruby's words added fuel to his anger, indeed this girl speaks without any discretion. Aston's fist came down hard on their table.

"Show this attitude of yours somewhere else, it will not work here," Ruby said, her voice cold and unyielding. Aston realized he wouldn't get any answers from them. Frustrated and seething, he turned away from their table and made his way back to Elena.

Elena had watched the entire exchange, her eyes following Aston as he returned to their table. She recalled vividly when she had mentioned Nyrah's name to him in the first place. It was the day Nyrah won the position, and Elena had been assaulted soon after. The suspicion had gnawed at her, leading her to voice it to Aston.

She still remembered the anger in his eyes when he found out. "Elena, seriously? You said her name because you thought she might be behind the attack?"

"Aston, I'm sorry, I thought-" she began, but he cut her off.

"Keep your sorry to yourself, Elena. Never do anything like that in the future when you're not sure," he had concluded harshly before storming out of her room. She had been left feeling hurt and abandoned, upset that he hadn't even asked about her health but had only come to confront her. Elena could see that Aston was physically present with her, but his thoughts were clearly elsewhere, still revolving around Nyrah.

Aston was in the meeting room with the Tourism Department, just like every year. This time, the eagerly anticipated college tour was set for Switzerland. The head of the Tourism Department handed him the list of all those who had booked seats. As he scanned the names, a certain one caught his attention: Nyrah Alabaster. She had booked a presidential suite.

'So she will be going to Switzerland next week but has no intentions of attending college,' he thought, a plan forming in his mind. This could be his chance to meet her.

"Add my name to the list," he ordered the head of the department.

"But the list is already full, sir," the head replied hesitantly.

"Do as I say," Aston concluded the conversation, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Meanwhile, Nyrah's phone buzzed with a notification, confirming that all arrangements for her five-day stay in Switzerland were complete. She stepped out onto the balcony of her brother's secluded farmhouse, nestled near the forest, far from any residential area. The location was known to few, offering a perfect hideaway from the world.

As she stood there, a cool breeze swept across the balcony, gently drying her tears and carrying away her fears. Her ebony hair danced in the wind, and she couldn't help but think how nature truly was the best healer. Despite this, she hadn't yet decided whether to return to college; the very thought of it felt too overwhelming.

The thought of returning to college felt distant and unappealing. She wanted nothing more than to escape her thoughts of Aston, hoping that this trip abroad would offer the distraction she desperately needed. Little did she know, this journey would indeed alter her life, but not in the way she hoped. Instead of bringing peace, it would usher in unforeseen challenges and turmoil.
