Chapter 62
Nyrah woke up feeling as tired as she had on previous days. The events of the previous night played through her mind. When Aston had dropped her off at home, her family had been waiting, worried and anxious, unaware of her visit to the doctor.
When she revealed the news of her pregnancy, her parents had been overjoyed, showering her with blessings. Alessa had looked tense, while Zale's expression had clearly shown his unhappiness with the news.
Aston had left after dropping her off, despite her parents' insistence that he stay. It was as if he had sensed her discomfort, and for that, she was thankful. Alone in her room, Nyrah let out a sharp breath as she once again touched her stomach, her baby. The reality of her situation weighed heavily on her mind.
Just then, the door to her room opened, and there stood Alessa with a tray of tea and breakfast, along with her prescribed medicine. "Good morning, dear," Alessa greeted with her usual wide smile.
Nyrah returned the smile, grateful for Alessa's unwavering support. In this house, Alessa was the one person who always made her feel at ease. "Good morning, Alessa. You didn't have to go through all this trouble," Nyrah said softly.
"It's no trouble at all," Alessa replied, setting the tray down on the bedside table. "You need to take care of yourself now more than ever."
She sat down beside Nyrah, her eyes filled with warmth and concern. "How are you feeling?"
"A bit overwhelmed," Nyrah admitted, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the edge of the teacup.
"Everything's happening so fast. I don't even know how to feel about it all."
"It's okay to feel that way. Your best friend and sister-in-law is always here for you. So if you ever feel overwhelmed, it's my responsibility to keep you happy," Alessa said warmly, giving Nyrah's hand another reassuring squeeze.
Nyrah's eyes welled up with gratitude. "Thank you, Alessa. I don't know what I would do without you."
Alessa smiled and handed Nyrah her cup of tea. "Now, drink this and take your medicine."
Nyrah did as she was told, sipping her tea and taking her medicine. Once she was done, Alessa suggested, "How about we take a stroll in the garden? Fresh air and a bit of exercise will be good for both you and the baby."
They were just strolling around when a sleek black Bugatti entered the driveway. Nyrah pressed her lips into a thin line. Aston was here. The guard from the other car quickly opened the door as Aston stepped out, looking deviously handsome in his blue suit. It was clear he was supposed to be going to the office, so why was he here?
Nyrah's heart beat faster as she saw him coming in her direction. Without a word, he quickly hugged her, kissing her hair behind her head. His touch never failed to calm her down, to make her feel alive. She pulled away, and he let her, not before giving her a light peck on the lips. Nyrah blushed, noticing Alessa watching them in shock.
It was 10:30 in the morning, and Aston was still here when he should have been at the office by 8. He was known for his punctuality—she still remembered the incident when he fired a man for being fifteen minutes late to work. Yet here he was, smiling widely.
Alessa swore she never knew this man could smile like that. "Aston, what are you doing here?" Nyrah asked, her voice soft but curious.
"I wanted to see you," he said simply, his eyes filled with warmth. "And make sure you're okay."
Nyrah's heart fluttered at his words, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. "I'm fine," she replied, glancing at Alessa, who was still staring in astonishment.
Aston chuckled, noticing Alessa's reaction. "Good morning, Alessa. Hope I'm not interrupting anything important."
Alessa shook her head, finally finding her voice. "No, not at all"
Aston smiled, turning his attention back to Nyrah. "I brought something for you, Nyrah." With that, he turned to his car. The guards, as if understanding his gesture, quickly started taking out the stuff from the third car—flowers and bouquets, filling the air with their fresh fragrance.
Nyrah's eyes widened in surprise. "Aston, what is all this?"
Aston grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Just wanted to brighten your day."
Nyrah's eyes softened, "You didn't have to, but thank you, Aston."
He leaned in closer, his voice gentle. "It's my responsibility to ensure your happiness, Nyrah"
Before Nyrah could respond, Aston preempted her with a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Now I'll get going for work. See you tomorrow," he said softly, his voice filled with warmth. With that, he turned and walked back to his car, leaving her with a smile that lingered long after he was gone.
