Chapter 65

The next day, Aston, as always, decided to buy flowers for Nyrah. With a bouquet of her favorite flowers in hand, he stood in front of her room, hesitating for a brief moment before opening the door. As the door swung open, he was immediately greeted by the sight of Nyrah standing by mirror.

Aston, upon seeing Nyrah struggling with the buttons, quickly set the flowers aside and moved to help her. She allowed him to assist without a word, her back to him, as he deftly fastened the buttons. His fingers brushed lightly against her skin, and he couldn't help but notice how delicate she felt under his touch.

As he finished, he took a step back, his eyes lingering on her outfit—a white top and jeans that hugged her frame. "Won't these be tight on you?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.

But Nyrah didn't answer him. She ignored his question entirely, moving towards the bed to straighten the sheets, her actions deliberate and focused. Aston frowned, the silence between them heavy and unsettling.

"Nyrah?" he called softly, hoping to draw her attention. But she continued with her task, her back to him, as if she hadn't heard him at all.

The unease in his chest grew. He stepped closer, reaching out to touch her arm gently. "Is something wrong?" he asked, his voice low, trying to understand the sudden distance she was putting between them.

When Nyrah finally turned to face Aston, her expression was unreadable, but there was a heaviness in the air that made his heart pound with unease. She reached into the bedside drawer and pulled out a stack of papers. Without a word, she handed them to him.

Aston took the papers, confused and concerned. His eyes widened in shock as he saw the title: Separation Agreement. His gaze quickly fell to the bottom of the page, where he saw her signature—bold, final, and heart-wrenching. He also noticed the dried tear stains on the paper, a painful testament to the emotions she had gone through while signing it.

His heart felt like it had stopped. Aston stared at the papers in disbelief, his mind racing, struggling to accept what was in front of him. This wasn't just a legal document; it was a declaration that Nyrah wanted out, that she wanted to end their marriage.

"Nyrah," he finally whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "Why... why would you do this?" He looked up at her, searching her eyes for answers, for any sign that this was a mistake, that she didn't truly want this.

"I've made up my mind, Aston. I'm sorry," Nyrah repeated, her voice steadier this time, though her eyes remained averted, focusing on anything but him. She couldn't bring herself to look directly at him, knowing that one glance into his pleading eyes might weaken her resolve.

In her heart, she believed that ending their marriage was the only way to reclaim her life, to live for herself and the child growing inside her. The years of pain, mistrust, and the scars left by their tumultuous relationship had taken their toll. She needed peace, and she was convinced that this was the only way to find it.

Just as Nyrah finished speaking, the sound of tearing paper broke the heavy silence. She looked up, startled, to see Aston ripping the divorce papers into countless pieces, his expression one of fierce determination.

"What are you doing?" she asked, her voice trembling with a mix of surprise and frustration.

Aston's hands shook as he tore the papers apart, letting the pieces flutter to the ground like fallen leaves. "I won't accept this, Nyrah," he said, his voice firm despite the turmoil in his eyes. "I'm not giving up. I refuse to let you go like this."

"Aston, this isn't fair," she managed to say, her voice shaky. "You can't just—"

"I can," he interrupted, stepping closer to her, his gaze intense. "And I will."

Nyrah dared to meet his gaze, her heart pounding as Aston gently brushed a strand of hair from her face. His touch was tender, almost reverent, as if he was afraid she might disappear if he wasn't careful. The intensity in his hazel eyes made her feel vulnerable, exposed, as though he could see right through the walls she'd tried so hard to build around herself.

"Nyrah," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper. "I love you. More than anything."

"Tell me you love me too," Aston urged, his voice trembling slightly as he cupped her face in his hands, gently forcing her to meet his gaze. His hazel eyes were filled with a mix of desperation and hope, searching hers for any sign of the feelings she once had for him.

Nyrah gulped, her throat suddenly dry. She could feel the intensity of his emotions, and it was overwhelming. The love she had buried deep within her heart began to resurface, but so did the fear and pain that had come with it.

"I..." she started, her voice barely a whisper as she tried to find the words. But the lump in her throat grew, making it hard to speak. She could see the vulnerability in his eyes, the silent plea for her to say the words he so desperately needed to hear.

"I don't love you," Nyrah declared, her voice cold and firm, cutting through the tension in the room like a blade. Aston's hands froze on her face, his breath hitching as the words sank in.

For a moment, there was silence, heavy and suffocating. Aston's hazel eyes searched hers, desperate to find any sign that she didn't mean it—that there was still something left between them. But all he saw was the icy resolve in her gaze.

His hands dropped from her face, falling to his sides as if all the strength had been drained from his body. He stared at her, his heart shattering into pieces he wasn't sure could ever be put back together.

"You... you don't mean that," he whispered, his voice barely audible as he took a step back, trying to make sense of the sudden turn.

"I... I meant it, Aston," Nyrah stammered, though her voice was less certain now, almost as if she were trying to convince herself as much as him. "I want a divorce."

Aston stopped in his tracks, his back still turned to her. For a moment, he didn't move, as if her words had paralyzed him. Slowly, he turned around, his eyes locking onto hers. There was a storm of emotions in his gaze—hurt, confusion, but most of all, an intense, overwhelming sadness.

Aston shook his head slowly, as if he couldn't quite believe what he was hearing. He took a step closer to her. Aston's grip tightened around Nyrah's waist as he pulled her flush against him, his eyes burning with a dangerous intensity.

"But I won't divorce you, Nyrah," he growled, his voice low and menacing, sending a chill down her spine. "Not in this life. You will live with my name forever, and I'll destroy every single soul who tries to take you away from me. Even if I have to start with that so-called brother of yours."

Nyrah's breath caught in her throat, a shiver of fear and dread running through her. His words were filled with a terrifying resolve, the kind she had never seen before, not even in the worst moments of their relationship. She could feel the madness lurking just beneath the surface, a twisted obsession that threatened to consume them both.

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she shook her head, trying to push him away, but his grip only tightened. "You will divorce me, Aston," she pleaded, her voice trembling. "If you really loved me, you would let me go."

Aston's expression softened for a fleeting moment, a flicker of pain crossing his face as he looked down at her. "Are you so eager to leave me, Nyrah?" he asked, his voice tinged with an emotion she hadn't expected.

For a brief moment, he released his grip on her and stepped back, creating a distance between them that felt unsettling in its suddenness. Nyrah's heart pounded in her chest, confusion and regret battling within her as she watched the man she had once loved more than anything withdraw from her.

Just as she began to process the shift in his demeanor, Aston's next words hit her like a cold slap to the face. "Fine," he said, his voice laced with bitterness, "I'll sign those damn papers."
