Chapter 42

After a week, Nyrah found herself standing in front of an imposing building, clutching a business card that read: "KYROS REID, CABIN NO. 37," along with a phone number and other details. The memory of her discharge day was still fresh. As she had thanked him for the last time before leaving, he handed her his card with a gentle smile. "If you ever feel low or need someone to talk to, you know where to find me," he had said.

For days, she pondered over his words, finally deciding that she needed to take this step. She genuinely wanted to escape the shadows of her past and return to the vibrant person she had been before the blast.

Standing now on the third floor, she was relieved to see that there weren't many appointments today. Kyros Reid was a renowned psychiatrist, and she had read about his work extensively. Gathering her courage, she entered his cabin. He was busy reviewing some reports but looked up as she walked in.

"Please, come in, Nyrah," he said warmly. She hesitated for a moment before taking a seat opposite him.

"What brings you here?" he asked. The question hung in the air, and Nyrah found herself at a loss for words. Sensing her hesitation, Kyros smoothly shifted his approach.

"Okay, tell me, how are you feeling today?"

"I'm good," she replied with a small smile.

"And how have your days at home been? Did you enjoy yourself?" he asked.

She nodded, a genuine smile spreading across her face. "I've enjoyed a lot. Zale and Alessa are wonderful together, and I tease them all the time. Mom and Dad join us for games like carrom and cards. Alessa and I love trying out different dishes. Yesterday, we played a prank on Zale—it was hilarious," she laughed, reminiscing about her family.

Kyros smiled, pleased with her positive response. "Who is in your family?"

"Me, Zale, Ales—" she began, but he gently interrupted her.

"I mean in your in-laws' house."

The joy in her expression faded, replaced by a frown. "My husband Aston and my father-in-law, Mr. James Archer," she replied, her tone subdued. Kyros now had a clearer picture of where her troubles lay.

"Nyrah, do you love Aston?" Kyros asked gently, his eyes searching hers for a truth she wasn't sure she knew anymore. The question hung heavy in the air, pressing down on her heart. Could she still love him after everything he had done? She took a deep, shaky breath.

"I don't know," she admitted, her voice barely a whisper. Kyros nodded, his expression thoughtful. "When did you both first meet?"

The question stirred a flood of memories. Nyrah felt herself drifting back to a time when everything was simpler, sweeter.

Nyrah returned home after the therapy session, and she would be lying if she said she didn't feel better. Kyros was kind and understanding, making it easier to open up. She had just stepped into the house when she heard her father's laughter mingled with another voice. Quickly, she made her way to the dining room, where her father sat with Aston. Confusion flickered across her face. What was Aston doing here?

Her father looked up with a smile. "Come, Nyrah. Aston was missing you, so he came to take you home."

The words hit her like a bombshell. She didn't want to go anywhere—not now, not ever. She looked at her parents, her voice trembling slightly. "But I want to stay with you a little longer."

Her father's smile faded, replaced with a more serious expression. "Dear, you can visit us anytime you want, but your husband is feeling lonely without you. You should also think about him."

Nyrah glanced at Aston, who was looking at her as if he had never seen her before. "Aston can I stay here a little longer, I don't want to leave so soon," she stated firmly.

Aston finally spoke up, his voice tinged with frustration. "One week is not a short time, Nyrah."

She glared at him. "It's short for me," she shot back.

"So, you want to stay here forever now?" he taunted.

"Only if the situation is in my favor," she countered.

"I bet you have other responsibilities at our home," he retorted, emphasizing the word "our" in a way that made her heart skip a beat. But she wasn't ready to give in.

"I don't do anything there except wander around," she argued.

"So how much more time do you need to make up your mind?" he pressed.

"I don't know, but I'll tell you when I'm ready to return," she assured him.

Aston sighed in defeat. "Fine. If that's what you want, then we'll stay here for some more time."

Nyrah narrowed her eyes in confusion. What did he mean by "we"? Sensing her confusion, he clarified, "I will live with you here until you decide to finally return home."

His declaration dropped like a second bombshell. No, he couldn't stay here with her—doing so would defeat the purpose of her time away. As he stepped out of the dining room, heading toward the guest room, she followed him, her mind racing. She caught up with him just as he was about to make a call, grabbing his arm and making him turn to face her.

"And why so?" Aston raised an eyebrow, his gaze piercing.

"B-Because you have other priorities to look after," Nyrah stammered, trying to come up with an excuse.

"Right now, my top priority is you. Everything else can be managed," he replied firmly, showing no signs of changing his mind.

"No, Aston, you can't stay here," she insisted, her voice growing more desperate.

Without warning, he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. His touch sent a shiver down her spine. "Why not, Nyrah?" he asked softly, his voice a mix of challenge and tenderness. She looked up at him, their faces inches apart, and felt a storm of conflicting emotions.

"I'm staying here with you and that's final," Aston declared, his voice leaving no room for argument.
