Chapter 56
Aston's face contorted with a mix of anger, confusion, and betrayal. His eyes, once filled with affection for Elena, now burned with a harsh intensity. He struggled to comprehend the full scope of what he was hearing. The father he had trusted had orchestrated a deception so deep that it shattered his past and present.
"Then whose body did we bury?" Aston demanded, his voice trembling with a mix of anger and disbelief.
Elena began to speak, her voice trembling. "That night, after seeing you and Nyrah together, my doubts turned into conviction. I realized how wrong I was to imagine a future with you and how right your father was about you. I was hurt, Aston. Devastated. I felt like my world had crumbled."
She paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I decided to contact your father. He had given me his card, remember? I didn't want to believe it, but everything he said started to make sense. I needed to protect myself, my family."
Aston's eyes widened, his mind reeling. "So you called him? And what then? You just decided to vanish?"
Elena nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. "I told him I wanted out. That I couldn't bear the pain anymore. He offered me a way out, a new life. He arranged everything, Aston. The body you buried... it was a Nina Schneider, one of the staff member someone with no family, no ties. Your father made it look like it was me."
"Nina Schneider's identity was given to me, and for the world, Elena Evan had died," she explained, her voice trembling with the weight of her confession.
Aston clenched his fists, the knuckles turning white. "So what about these letters and receipts.?"
Aston threw the letters and receipts of transactions from his father's study onto the table. Confused, Elena picked one of them up and began to read. Her eyes widened as she understood why he got her address.
"Yes, these letters belong to me. I wrote them for Kyros when I was working in France," she explained. "We met there and fell in love. Your father restricted me from using any kind of contact, so I didn't have a phone. This is how Kyros and I communicated when he moved to Germany. Later on, your father found out about it and helped me move to Germany as well. But these letters were left with him I guess and these were the transaction for the money he helped me with."
Aston's anger simmered just below the surface as he listened to her explanation. "So, you just went along with everything my father wanted?"
Elena nodded, tears brimming in her eyes. "He promised me a good job and a stable life for my family. And he delivered on that promise. My mother passed away from cancer, but I was able to support her until the end. My brother is doing well now, and Kyros and I got married here. Elle came into our lives and brought us joy."
Aston's mind was a whirlwind of emotions. "You built a whole new life while I was drowning in guilt and grief. How could you?"
Elena's voice was barely a whisper. "I thought I was doing what was best for everyone. I never wanted to hurt you, Aston. I believed your father when he said it was the only way."
"But why was I caught in this mess, Elena?" Nyrah shouted from behind, her voice trembling with a mix of betrayal and fury. Kyros followed her, his expression a blend of concern and confusion.
Elena turned around, her eyes widening in shock as she saw Nyrah standing there. "Nyrah, I—" she started, but the words caught in her throat. She had no idea how to explain the tangled web of deceit to the woman whose life she had inadvertently shattered.
Nyrah's eyes were red, and tears streamed down her cheeks. "You faked your death, tore apart lives, and now I find out my husband has been lying to me this whole time. Why, Elena? Why drag me into this?"

Nyrah shook her head, disbelief etched across her face. "The only way? You thought the only way was to fake your death and leave everyone to suffer? Do you have any idea what I've been through? The accusations, the pain, the betrayal?"
Kyros stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on Nyrah's shoulder, but she shrugged it off, her anger still burning. "You all lied to me. Aston, his father, you—everyone. I trusted you all, and this is what I get?"
Elena looked at the floor, feeling the weight of her actions crashing down on her. The broken look on Nyrah's face told her everything she needed to know. Nyrah had gone through more than Elena could have imagined. Kyros, who once looked at Elena with pride, now had eyes reflecting disgust and shame.
Elena sobbed loudly, the sound echoing through the room. Zale stepped forward, his face a mask of fury. "Didn't she help you that night in the blast? Huh? Didn't she?" he shouted, his voice dangerously low, shaking her to the core.
Elena nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "Y-yes, it was Nyrah who helped me when I was stuck in the fire."
"And what did she get in return?" Zale continued, his voice rising with each word. "Accusations, murder charges, and years of guilt!"
Kyros stepped closer to Elena, his voice cold. "You, Nina—oh sorry, Elena. I loved you, trusted you. How could you keep this from me? How could you lie about your identity to me? Just how?" His eyes bore into hers, searching for answers, for any sign of the woman he thought he knew.
Nyrah looked at the scene, her vision blurring as her eyes started to close. The emotional toll of the revelations was too much for her to bear. Her body felt heavy, and the room began to spin.
"Nyrah!" Zale shouted, rushing to her side just as she collapsed. Kyros and Alessa followed quickly, their faces etched with concern.
