Chapter 28
Aston was sitting in his office, engrossed in typing on his laptop, when suddenly the door burst open to reveal a raging Zale. Zale's eyes blazed with fury, and he stormed toward Aston, looking as if he would devour him alive. Aston, bewildered by the sudden intrusion, barely had time to react before Zale crossed the room in huge strides, grabbed him by the collar, and yanked him to his feet.
"How dare you insult my sister!" Zale roared, his voice echoing off the office walls.
"What the f-" Aston began to protest, but his sentence was cut short as a powerful punch landed on his jaw, sending him sprawling onto the black-tiled floor. Pain shot through his face, and before he could even process it, another punch crashed into his cheek. Zale was gearing up for another blow when Aston, refusing to be a passive victim, shoved Zale off and stood up, ready to retaliate.
Just as Aston was about to deliver a punch of his own, Alessa intervened, grabbing his arm and stopping him. "No sir, you can't hurt him," she said firmly. Nyrah, looking terrified, also stepped in and pleaded, "Stop it, Aston, please." Aston, seeing the tears in Nyrah's eyes and feeling Alessa's grip, hesitated and then stopped, the tension in the room still palpable. Alessa then turned her attention to Zale, making sure he wasn't hurt.
While Nyrah approached Aston, she apologized, "I'm sorry it all happened because of me."
"It's happening not because of you, but because of his deeds," Zale yelled from behind.
"Brother, it's my matter. You should not interfere," Nyrah replied firmly.
"Everything related to you is mine also. You are my sister," Zale retorted.
"But you shouldn't have behaved this way, brother. I was going to talk to him."
"There's nothing left to talk about anymore. Stop being stupid and resign from here," Zale declared, determined not to let her continue working there. Nyrah knew this was inevitable.
"I'll resign," she stated, accepting that her time at the company had ended the moment Aston insulted her.
"She will not go anywhere," Aston finally spoke up, making Zale look at him with an evil smirk.
"Why, do you want more beating?" Zale mocked.
"Nyrah, you know you will not get a job anywhere," Aston said, his voice laced with concern and frustration.
"Oh, please keep that bullshit to yourself. My sister doesn't need a pathetic job when she can live effortlessly without any earnings," Zale sneered.
Aston shot him a pissed expression. He knew very well that Nyrah owned billions of dollars, but it wasn't about her needing the job. He didn't want her to leave. Not seeing her beautiful eyes and face every day did something to his heart. He didn't want to admit it, but he had grown accustomed to her presence. Yet, he decided to mask his true feelings with the pretense of seeking revenge.
"Aston, I want to resign," Nyrah declared, making Aston look at her with a mixture of frustration and tiredness.
"Come, I want to talk to you personally," Aston said, grabbing her wrist.
"She doesn't want to talk to you, leave her," Zale shouted, stepping forward. Alessa tried to hold Zale back, but it was clear he wasn't going to leave Nyrah alone with Aston.
Nyrah pulled her hand out of Aston's grasp and said, "Aston, there's nothing to talk about," her expression blank and unwavering. Aston didn't like it, but he knew he couldn't do anything. It was her decision, and he couldn't fight the power Zale held. Zale was as powerful as him, and Aston respected him as an influential figure in the business world. However, what he couldn't stand about Zale was his unbearable attitude.
Nyrah exited the office, followed closely by Alessa and Zale. As they reached the door, Zale stopped and turned back to warn Aston, "Don't ever try to come after my sister, because next time my hands will not stop from killing you."
Aston watched them leave, his heart heavy with conflicting emotions. He slumped into his chair, staring blankly at his laptop screen. The office felt eerily silent after the explosive confrontation, and the weight of the situation pressed down on him. He knew he had to do something, but he was at a loss for what that might be.
The sky had gone dark, with the moon and stars gracing the night. Nyrah looked up from the car window, lost in thought. The city lights blurred into a kaleidoscope of colors as they drove through the bustling streets. Alessa, sensing her worry, spoke up, "Nyrah, don't worry about shifting. I'll pack all your important stuff from the apartment."
"Why? Aren't you coming home with me?" Nyrah asked, confused.
"Oh, come on, what would I do there?" Alessa replied, trying to brush off the idea. Zale's expression darkened at Alessa's denial.
"Brother, please tell her to join us. I won't go home without her," Nyrah said, clearly unhappy with Alessa's decision.
"Alessa, please. Nyrah still needs you," Zale added, looking at Alessa hopefully.
"Alright," Alessa agreed, making Nyrah smile. If only she knew, someone else in the car was more than pleased with Alessa's decision.
Zale glanced at Alessa from the corner of his eye, a small, satisfied smile playing on his lips. The car ride continued in silence, the tension slowly ebbing away as they approached Nyrah's family home.
Aston, meanwhile, sat alone in his office, his mind racing. He replayed the events of the evening over and over, his frustration mounting. He couldn't believe how quickly things had spiraled out of control.
As the night wore on, Aston's thoughts kept drifting back to Nyrah. He realized that his feelings for her were deeper than he had admitted to himself. He couldn't let her go without a fight, but he knew he had to be careful. Zale was a formidable opponent, and any misstep could cost him dearly.
