Chapter 61
Nyrah froze, her mind racing as his lips pressed against hers. Every instinct screamed to pull away, but the flood of emotions and memories held her in place. She felt a familiar warmth spread through her, an undeniable connection that only he could evoke. The kiss was a collision of past and present, filled with unspoken words and suppressed feelings. Her hands, which had been pushing against his chest, slowly relaxed as the intensity of the moment overwhelmed her.
His kiss was gentle yet desperate, as if he was pouring all his regrets and apologies into that single act. Nyrah's heart pounded in her chest, torn between the pain of betrayal and the undeniable love she still felt. The world outside the place they stand faded away, leaving only the two of them in a tangled web of emotions. She found herself responding, her own need for him surfacing despite everything that had happened.
Nyrah snapped out of her daze, suddenly remembering the situation. She had just vomited, and now he was kissing her. A wave of embarrassment and confusion washed over her. She pulled away, her face flushing with a mix of emotions.
She looked at him, but all she could see was his loving gaze fixed on her. She frowned, not liking the look he was giving her.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked, her voice edged with irritation.
Aston's expression softened even more, his eyes never leaving hers. "Because I see the woman I love, the woman I wronged, and the woman I'm desperate to make things right with."
Nyrah breathed through her clenched teeth. He was a freak, and she had no energy to bang her head against him. With that, she walked past him, but he scooped her up in a bridal style. A yelp of surprise left her lips at his action.
"Aston, put me down!" she demanded, her voice a mix of irritation and shock.
"Not until you get checked up," he said firmly, holding her securely in his arms.
"Wait, what?!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with confusion.
Nyrah struggled slightly in his arms, trying to free herself. "Aston, I'm fine. I don't need to be checked up. Just put me down."
Aston shook his head, his expression determined. "You're not fine, Nyrah. You've been feeling weak and vomiting. Something's not right, and I'm not taking any chances."
Her irritation flared up again. "This is ridiculous. I can take care of myself."
But Aston, as if having no intention of setting her down, took her through another exit without being noticed by anyone. Before leaving, he informed a guard to ensure her family wouldn't be worried.
Nyrah glanced at him, her frustration giving way to a mixture of curiosity and concern. "Where are we going?" she asked, her voice softer now.
"To the hospital," Aston replied, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Nyrah sighed but didn't protest further. She felt too weak and drained to argue anymore. Instead, she allowed herself to rest in his arms, feeling a strange sense of comfort despite everything. The ride to the hospital was quiet, with he occasionally glancing at her. As they reached the hospital, he carried her inside, not letting her walk even a step.
It was a private hospital, clearly one of the elite facilities given the affluent-looking visitors. Aston, his usual composure shattered by worry, took charge immediately. He stormed through the lobby, his voice echoing with urgency.
"Get me a nurse! Now!" he demanded, his tone leaving no room for hesitation.
Within moments, a flurry of activity ensued. Nurses and doctors hurried to their side, guiding them into a private examination room.
His anxiety was palpable as he stayed close to Nyrah, hovering with concern while medical staff began their assessment.
As the doctors prepared to begin the examination, they politely asked Aston to wait outside to maintain privacy and ensure Nyrah's comfort. He, however, was adamant.
After some tests and a brief discussion, the doctor turned to Aston and Nyrah with a measured tone.
"Congratulations, you're going to be parents," the doctor said, offering a reassuring smile despite the gravity of the situation. "Nyrah is pregnant."
Nyrah stared at the doctors in shock, her mind reeling. Could this really be the reason behind her daily sickness? Her hand instinctively moved to her stomach as she tried to process the news.
Aston, on the other hand, looked like he was on cloud nine. A wide smile spread across his face, brighter and more genuine than any Nyrah had ever seen. His eyes sparkled with joy and disbelief as he turned to look at her.
"We're having a baby," he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "Nyrah, we're going to be parents."
Nyrah's shock gave way to a mix of emotions: fear, uncertainty, and confusion. She looked up at Aston, her feelings in turmoil. How could she be happy about this when their relationship was so broken?
"I—I want to go home," Nyrah managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper. Aston saw the lack of joy in her eyes, but he let it slide, thinking she must be exhausted from the day's events.
The doctors recommended some medicines, and after receiving the prescriptions, Aston gently lifted Nyrah into his arms again.
"Let's get you home," he said softly, carrying her out of the hospital.
