CHAPTER 6 :
❀ HIS LOVE ❀
________________________________________________M I R A Y A 'S POV
"For me, she is the definition of love."
And everything around me stilled.
It's funny how I never expected us to have this conversation. And as the quote says it, eyes never lie, his eyes are the example of it.
They are filled with the quench of love for the woman he loves, that defines her worth in his life. He is looking at me as if he is letting it all out to someone for the very first time. I wonder where she is now.
"Don't cry, Meera. Everything is fine, okay." He cupped my both cheeks and slowly caressed them , wiping all the tears. I can still observe his eyes being watery yet stubborn to fall them off from his eyes. He stepped back slowly sitting back on the sofa while giving me his soft smile which barely reached up to his eyes.
How can someone be so calm with everything in his life?
Firstly, our marriage out of nowhere and then him confessing his love for his woman and acting as if I'm the one who is hurt here.
I feel bad for him right now. It's the same pain I felt all my life.
"Can you tell me more about her?" I barely said it in a whisper licking my dry lips and pressing the lower lip against my teeth and the changed expression on his face describes how he never expected me to ask this. "It's okay, if you don't want to share with me." And with that, I took the bowl of ice-cream which is almost melted now and stood up to leave.
But before I could leave, he grabbed my wrist and slowly pulled me back to where I was seated before. " She is the most beautiful part of my life." I turned my gaze to look at him as he signed deeply, closing his eyes. As he turned his face and opened his eyes, his soft eyes met mine for a fraction of second before he turned himself and stared at the table across the sofa.
"I still remember that day when I first saw her on the rainy day holding her tote bag on her head saving herself from the rain as she was crossing the road and passed by my car. She was looking ethereal , as she was the very first woman after my mom to grab my attention. It was not a love at first sight yet as she passed I could not take my eyes off her. Her hair was scattered and wet due to the rain." He paused. "I still remember her wearing this simple off-white suit and hands filled with bangles clutching her phone tightly. I was mesmerized by her until I observed her disappearing into a small alley." His eyes met mine again and I could see his smile reaching up to his eyes this time, before he turned his gaze at the table as I returned his smile.
"She must be really beautiful if she was able to catch your attention, Mr. Singhania." I attempted to tease him, to pull him out of his thoughts.
He clucked softly as he uttered, "Meera, I am unable to know your meaning of beautiful but-", as he again shifted to face me, his brown eyes containing the shine of fresh love, "To me, the word beautiful or any other word in the whole world will fall apart to describe her."
This time I felt something in my body.
A kind of different sensation overall. I brought myself back to reality when I realized that whatever he said is not for me. It's for his woman.
His woman. I chanted to myself.
I smiled looking at him. A genuine smile this time. And all he did was to keep staring at me.
To break the unknown awkwardness around us, I questioned him, "Where's she now? I-I mean, does she know you love her?" .
He averted his gaze at his bowl of ice-cream, before tasting a spoonful of it to his mouth, "She is safe & sound. And she does not know yet."
