It wasn't just a ritual-they were offering me their love, their protection, and their belief in me as part of their family.

"Now, throw this outside," Gauri Maa instructed Kavya Maa, who nodded and quickly left to discard the remnants.

As she walked away, Gauri Maa turned to me, her eyes soft and filled with warmth. She cupped my cheeks in her hands.

"You are like a daughter to us, Miraya. Same as Radhita and Adira." she said, "And I will always protect you, just like I protect them both."

My throat tightened at her words, the overwhelming rush of emotions making it hard to speak. I hadn't expected this or even experienced this, this open display of maternal love. The tears pricked at the corners of my eyes, but I blinked them away, unwilling to let them fall, again.

I've lied to them about the truth of our marriage. Yet, I cannot bring myself to confess the truth to them.

"Thank you, Maa," I whispered, as I smiled up at her. "I-I don't know what to say."

She smiled softly, brushing a tear away that had escaped, "You don't need to say anything, Beta. You're family now. That's all that matters."

Just as Kavya Maa returned, she joined Gauri Maa, both of them standing in front of me with such adoration that I felt myself relax entirely. Kavya Maa reached out, stroking my hair tenderly. "We've missed you so much, Beta. Stay with us, now for the weekend. No more stress and work. Only rest.", I nodded, smiling at her.

Before I could say anything more, a familiar voice broke through the gentle atmosphere. "Well, well, I can see I've been replaced."

I turned to see him leaning against one of the entrance pillars, a teasing smile playing on his lips. His arms were crossed, his eyes on me, "First you pamper my wife, now you're casting away nazar? Who am I to you now, huh? Just the forgotten son or an adopted one?"

Both Gauri Maa and Kavya Maa burst into laughter at his words, shaking their heads as they turned to him.

"Oh, don't be so dramatic, Raghav," Gauri Maa replied to him, "You'll always be our son, but now you're also the husband of our daughter. And today, she'll have all of our love, haina?"

I smiled, softly nodding at her.

Kavya Maa joined in with a smirk. "Besides, we've given you all our attention for years, Raghav. It's only fair that she gets her turn now."

Raghav pretended to sulk, placing a hand over his heart. "So this is it, huh? I've been reduced in rank now."

I couldn't help but laugh at his theatrics. He stepped closer, his eyes finding mine as he smiled softly, his teasing tone dropping as he spoke to me.
