When I woke up, the air was thick with stress, sweat clinging to my skin and my heart racing. The familiar weight of a nightmare seized me, making it difficult to shake off the anxiety. My thoughts were in confusion, an unorganized mess of the past and the present. I glanced in the dimly lit area of our room, desperately struggling to recapture awareness of my surroundings.
"Love. Hey, hey, I'm right here." His comforting voice pierced through the storm, and his touch was delicate yet solid as he caressed my cheek. "You are safe with me. Right in my arms."
I swallowed, the bitterness from my dream still lingering in the back of my throat. Shaking my head, I closed my eyes and leaned in his warm embrace, trying my best to let go of everything I experienced before I entered the darkness.
"This is happening again. I-I couldn't breathe. It felt familiar. It's the same feeling I had experienced when I collapsed in your arms, but it was different. I don't know why but this feels like it had happened before. I thought I was back -"
He placed his arms around me firmly this time, pulling me in his embrace. "Shh... Meera, it's over, now. You are with me now. We are safe at our home."
His voice soothes the sharp edges of my anxiety, but I couldn't control the stubborn tears that welled up in my eyes, and I tried my best to battle, to hold them back, yet I failed as always.
How can he always be here to calm me, despite me giving nothing but pain in our marriage?
"I... I collapsed, Raghav." I stammered as I held him in fear, clutching on his t-shirt tightly. "I don't know what happened, but it was so sudden. I couldn't control it. I couldn't control myself."
He pulled back , his brown eyes filled with worry but also an undeniable strength that calmed me. "Okay! Calm down.", he started to rub my arms, softly, trying his best to ease myself down, "You're pushing yourself too hard, Love. You're overworked, and dehydrated. The doctor said to take it easy for now but you know we can't keep this happening. It's not safe for you and our baby."
I clenched his t-shirt tightly to let go of the inner turmoil storming inside my heart. It's better to just forget everything if I'm unable to recall the past, it's better to move on with positivity and trust our marriage, more than anything, just trust him, because he's the only one I've now in my life.
"Shush.. No more crying. I don't want to lose you again, Love."
"Again?" I asked, unable to understand the meaning behind her words.
"Nothing!" He released a shaky breath before pecking a kiss on my forehead. The rhythmic beating on his heart beneath my ear, relieved me for a moment. "You don't have to go through this alone. I'm here, always. You're not going through this pregnancy alone. Do you understand?"
I blinked back the tears, my throat tightening as I tried to form the words. "I don't want to be a burden on you, Raghav. I'm scared. What if this happens again? I'm just putting more work on your side."
