Abhi squared his shoulders and walked inside. Andy still had his hand draped around his shoulders, both a sign of support and caution. He had a strong urge that the boy would bolt. Andy did not want that.
"Abhimaan, mera bacha (My son)" The woman rushed to hug Abhi, Andy pushed Abhi behind his back protectively, just as Roohi held the woman back forcefully. Arjun fisted his hands by his side. Sitting there and doing nothing to stop the woman was the hardest thing he had to ever do, but he knew it was the their best chance.
Abhi had to make his choice very clear. That was the key to the custody battle. If the boy cowered before the woman, he would not survive the court case. Arjun wanted to see how much Abhi could handle. He hoped the boy would ask her to take a hike. That would give him immense satisfaction. Abhi was a teenager but he was a brave boy. Arjun placed his bet on the boy.
"Stay away" Roohi hissed.
"Woh mera bacha hai. (He is my child)" The woman glared. "You have no right to come between a mother and a child."
"Enough" Ashok's voice boomed. He rose to his full height driving the fear of god into the woman. Ashok was a scary man, but when he turned his attention on someone he could make them feel the heat with his actions.
"Ms. Banerjee, the boy is here, tell the woman to keep her distance. I will not warn again"
Sara pulled the woman back. She was regretting taking her case. The woman was turning into a nightmare.
"Control your emotions Ms. Sinha" Sara implored. "The boy is here and he looks safe"
"They abused him" the woman accused.
Sara looked at Abhi, Andy was still blocking his view.
"They did not" Abhi stepped forward. For a second he was terrified when he saw her, but the moment he heard the accusations he knew she was back to her ways. She did the drama when she wanted money. He knew her well.
"Abhimaan......" She took a step towards him, Andy once again stepped in her way, this time Abhi held his hand and pulled him back.
"It's okay bhai, I can handle her."
Andy froze. Bhai. The word hit hard. No one ever called him that. Abhi walked towards her and faced her square on.
"Bacha....."
"Mere paas aapko dene keleye phoote kaude nahi hai. (I don't have a single penny to offer you) That man left me with nothing. This is a big mansion Nalini, but I am the outsider."
Nalini, his mother stiffened.
"Mom, Abhimaan. Maa hoon main tere. (I am your mother)" Nalini tried to touch him. Abhimaan stepped back.
"Funny you remember that now, Nalini. Did you have a temporary amnesia when you sold me to that man? How much did he pay you? 5 lakhs? Did you run out of all the money?"
