It was the first day of school. There was nothing special about the first day of school. Or at least that is what Abhi believed. His life had never been kind to him. He enrolled in school to get decent meals and then discovered the wealth of education. His father put him in expensive schools but he had alwyas been treated as the outsider there. So he was never particularly excited about the first day of school.
So when his bhaiya called him early in the morning to wake him up and wish him luck, he was pleasantly surprised.
"There is something for you under the rose bushes. Go get it before the gardener sees it. I hope you will like it bacha" The Phoenix's voice was filled with warmth.
"What is it?" Abhi's voice filled with excitement.
"A small gift. It's the first day of your school. I wanted you to have something. I know you have everything you need. This is just a small token from your bhaiya. If you do not like it, you can get it changed. I left the receipt in the bag."
Abhi's eyes softened. His bhaiya did not have to give him anything. He was not obliged in anyway, and yet he cared enough to do it. He was overwhelmed.
"All the best beta. Go get ready. You do not want to be late on the very first day"
Abhi got down from the bed almost forgetting about his fracture.
"Don't put pressure on your leg" The phoenix warned before Abhi could even put his foot down. "Take it slow. Enjoy the school but do not get into trouble. Okay?"
Abhi bobbed his head forgetting that the Phoenix could not see him.
"You realize I cannot see you right?" The Phoenix chuckled.
"But you understand me well to know what I do. So don't taunt me early in the morning" Abhi countered. He was gaining more and more confidence with his bhaiya. The love that the Phoenix showered on him so generously gave him the courage. "I will have fun and I will not get in any kind of trouble bhaiya. Just come back safe. I want to meet you soon"
