Ember's POV:
It was early in the morning.
Too early to be awake for that matter.
The only reason I was awake before the sun was even up was because H was leaving and I didn't want to miss saying goodbye to him, I knew he was only going to be gone for a couple of days but I was still going to miss him nonetheless.
"I don't want you to leave" I sighed to H. We were still cuddled up in bed but it was getting closer to the time he'd have to go.
"I know baby, but I have to" He pressed a kiss to my temple and flicked the blanket off himself. I watched him lazily gather clothes into a bag before getting himself dressed. H threw me the hoodie he had worn yesterday and I pulled it close to my chest, inhaling his scent. "Jax will be here if you need anything" He swung the bag over his shoulder and leant down to me "I love you"
"I love you" He pressed our lips together one last time before he left.
I sighed.
I lay there in the bed, his bed..... our bed?
It was still dark so I decided I was going to try to go back to sleep, though however much I tried I couldn't seem to fall back asleep, a million thoughts going through my head. I knew this was what H did as the leader of this compound, that he had to meet with other people, other leaders but I was still allowed to feel sad that I wasn't going to see him for a few days. He was going with Ash and Cruze so I knew they would keep each other safe.
Just then there was a knock on the door and I knew before he even walked in that it was Jax, he opened the door and quietly made his way over to me, we didn't even need to speak to understand each other. He kicked his shoes off and pulled his hoodie over his head, leaving his shorts and tshirt on and slipped into the bed.
"Go to sleep" He whispered. I turned around so I was facing away from him and he slung his arm over me, it felt warm and comforting, nothing like with H but I was thankful for his friendship.
....
When my eyes opened for the second time that morning the sun was actually up, I glanced at the time, I had gotten an extra two hours of sleep and I felt much better for it. Jax's arm was still slung over me and I could hear his soft breaths from behind me. I needed the bathroom though so I carefully picked his arm up and rolled out of bed, the air was frigid now I was out of the warm bed so I pulled on H's hoodie over my singlet and shorts, it went almost to my knees but I loved it. When I returned from the bathroom Jax had woken up.
"Wanna go get some breakfast" He asked sitting up.
"Yeah I'm hungry" I admitted.
Jax got out of bed, pulled his own hoodie on and laced his shoes up. We headed to the mess hall but it felt weird with three less people at the table, especially because the three empty seats were by me, to my right where H sat, Cruze who usually would be at the head of the table at our end and Ash who would be across from me. The seats down the other end where the boys from Icarus Falls sat when they were with us were empty too after being filled all weekend, so it felt even weirder just being Jax, Nate, Avery and I.
"This doesn't feel right" Avery piped up as if she could read my mind and I swear she could most of the time.
"Yeah it does" I agreed spooning scrambled eggs into my mouth.
"It was even worse when you guys weren't here" Nate shrugged.
"What are they even doing?" I asked Jax. I hadn't wanted to talk to H about it but now I was a little curious.
