I was going through the paperwork with Jax in my office when Ember came in to tell me she wouldn't be sleeping in our hut tonight, she was going to be having a girls night with Avery instead which was a little weird because it had been so sudden and even weirder because I knew Avery was sick, Nate had told us.
"You're just sad you won't have your cuddle buddy tonight" Jax teased and I threw a pen at him, not because he was wrong but because he was absolutely correct and that pissed me off.
"Whatever" I rolled my eyes. We carried on until my eyes hurt and I couldn't concentrate anymore. "I'm going to get a cup of tea"
"I'll have one too" Jax smiled up at me from his position on the floor. I rolled my eyes at him thinking he could just boss me around, technically I'm in charge so I could make him get me one but luckily for him I wasn't an asshole like that and unluckily for me Jax had a strange way of making people do anything for him, like I had seen it when we were growing up. People would just give him things or offer to do anything for him, I've always been a tad bit jealous of his way with people but as his best friend it's cool to witness.
I headed to the kitchen where I made the two cups of tea, while I waited for the kettle to boil I munched on a cookie that I hoped Maeve wouldn't mind I'd stolen. The kettle clicked, indicating it had reached it's boiling point so I carefully poured the water into the cups and finished off the two tea's. I grabbed ahold of both mug handles with one hand, leaving my other free to open the door handles on my way.
The mess hall was still empty when I made my way back out and to my office but as I was heading back I spotted Ember going into the infirmary, I wanted to see if she needed anything else or maybe if she wanted me to bring some dinner over to her and Avery seeing as she'd said they wouldn't be there tonight. I opened the door to the infirmary and I could hear Ember's voice immediately but what she said made me halt.
"Yeah I think one test will be enough, if not I'll come back but thank you so much again Cruze and I appreciate you not saying anything to anyone" I was taken back for a second, as far as I knew Em didn't need any tests done but then I started to get a little nervous because what if it's like a blood test or something because she's sick and she's hiding it from me. I hoped that wasn't the case, I hope she knows she can tell me anything.
"No worries" I heard Cruze reply. I was curious what she was doing, I knew I shouldn't be listening to their conversation so I started to turn around to leave but Cruze spoke again peaking my interest. "Do you know how it works?"
