Twenty-Two (H.S)

Chapter 42

The 11 friends enjoyed their night of partying together, laughs were shared, games were played but most importantly to the group they were having worry-free fun.

The cook bought over some homemade crisps, dips and cookies for the friends to share and they insisted she join in for the rest of the night, she obliged.

The couples spent time together and apart throughout the evening, mixing and mingling around so everyone had a little time with one another although as the night started to wind down they started to pair off, much how these things usually went.

Jax and Luke disappeared first, heading back to Jax's hut for some privacy. Nate and Avery were next, Avery pretty much having to drag her boyfriend to bed after he'd had a little too much to drink and could barely stand. Then before anyone really noticed Ash and Maeve left together, the friends hadn't taken much notice of the obvious flirting between the pair throughout the evening so were oblivious to the fact that they were now in Ash's bed together. Cruze excused himself at around 2am, wanting to go check on the girl in the infirmary before heading to bed by himself. The leader and his girlfriend said goodnight to the remaining visiting boys and took themselves off to bed which just left the 3 from Icarus Falls, their leader took himself to the bathroom and then collapsed into one of the lazyboy chair in the corner before falling fast asleep, the alcohol in his system making it easy. 

The best friends from Icarus Falls remained, neither one of them ready to call it a night just yet, they turned the lights off so their leader could sleep in peace and they decided to take a walk around the compound, it wasn't raining currently like it had been all week so they thought they should make the most of it, even if this wasn't their home compound they had always been welcome here and knew the boys like brothers so they felt very comfortable as they walked down the empty paths. 

The tanned dark haired boy and the pale coloured hair boy walked side by side chatting away to each other, they had consumed alcohol but not enough that they were completely inebriated however unbeknown to the pair they weren't alone, two sets of eyes watched from the other side of the fence, they followed as the two walked the perimeter of the compound being careful to stay hidden behind various bushes and trees.

They managed to not be seen or heard the whole way until the very last moment, the Icarus Falls duo had finished their walk and were about to head inside when they heard a twig snap from just through the security fence. They both twisted their heads towards the noise, squinting their eyes but failing to see anything in the darkness, the tanned boy asked the pale boy if he had heard the noise and when the other confirmed he had they both wanted to take a closer look.

The intruders took a step backwards not wanting to be found out but one of them tripped causing a small noise to escape him as he fell to the ground. The other two definitely heard that noise, both their heart rates increased. One of them yelled out asking who was there but of course the intruders didn't answer. The boys looked at each other unsure what to do, the pale one shrugged his shoulders and stepped forward to investigate but the tanned one reached out for his shoulder and pulled him back behind him silently telling his best friend he would check for the danger. He walked right up to the security fence, gripping onto the chain links with his fingers and peering around. He could just make out a shadowy figure crouching behind a bush, he yelled out that he knew the person was there and then all of a sudden he seen movement from behind a tree off to the side and he knew there were two of them, the tanned dark haired boy could see a glint of something in the moonlight as the figure pulled a metal object from his waistband, he knew he needed to get out of there and find H but a deafening sound rang through his hears causing him to stop in his tracks.
