Warning: this chapter is very triggering.
"Dr Annabelle you cheated" Vera threw her hands in surrender.
"No, I won fair and square." I smirked watching the young girl fume silently. She flipped the chess board with an apparent pout. Vera then sighed slumping in the seat in front of the cateferia table.
"She cheated" Valentina said so casually like she was holding some incriminating evidence.
"Really? You saw?" Vera sat up with hope in her eyes.
"Uh no but I'm standing with you because you are my bestfriend"
I chuckled in amusement. Valentina was leaving the facility in a few hours but Vera was sad about it . My baby came to me with the most sad adorable looking face i had ever seen. All Valentina had to do was bat her eye lashes and push her plump bottom lip forward, i curved.
Valentina asked me to take her and Vera outside. It was good for patients so it was not illegal. Thats when we started playing chess and Vera was looking better. The bump on her head was gone left with a nasty purple bruise but she was doing better for the past hours. She looked happier.
"I wanted to talk to you about my aunt" Vera started holding Valentina's hand for support.
"Go on" I tried to look as welcoming as any sexy 6ft tall human can look.
"I think she tricked me. Ever since I got here, she never visited. At first i thought she was having a hard time but last night i called a friend. He told me that my aunt is living her best life with my money and my company." Vera's voice got more angrier. Her eyes shining.
"In one of our sessions you mentioned that you went to business school. I believe you should discuss this your lawyer and find a way to cut your aunt off after you have enough evidence to believe she did trick you. Actually, talk to Angelina about this and she can help you"
"Angelina hates me" Vera spoke as a reminder.
"No she does not. She just dont want you" Valentina clarified softly hurting the young girl unintentionally.
"Valentina!" I burned holes in her skull.
"I'm sorry Vera, i didn't mean to be insensitive" Valentina apologized looking at me as if she wanted a reward. I just gave her a serious blank stare.
"It's alright Dr Annabelle. I have accepted it and I will find a way to get over it. I'm just struggling because one day I'm healing and the next I'm falling completely apart. It's tiring. I want a way out"
Valentina nodded in agreement of what she said.
"Life is...pain. I'm not supposed to say this but the way out is getting out of bed every day and making it to nighttime. You will feel better then sad then angry. When its unbearable you ask your friend to come over and you watch horror shows and comedy. At some point you might have to live a bad month, so bad your psychiatrist's number will stay on speed dial"
Both girls giggled
"But there are also moments to cherish. You just have to create them yourselves. Go out there and travel, take risks and try your best not to die. Thats the best life can give. If you look for happiness, you won't find it. If you wait for happiness, it won't come."
I felt so old saying that shit but that was advice coming from just an older woman not their therapist.
"Happiness is the feeling of coffee on your tongue during winter, warming up your lungs" Vera giggled.
"That was sappy" Valentina rolled her eyes at me standing up. I watched her try to hide her smile but her lips betrayed her. She smiled still. Vera and Valentina held hands giggling at each other
