As the sun goes down and the day draws to an end
You wind down from another uneventful day
Hoping for less menial problems tomorrow
Yet, at the same time somewhere, someone's day dies differently
Descending into madness and horror as the unexpected happens
Menial problems wished for in exchange for those unfolding
They too pulled their pajamas on, ready for a quiet night
Kids all tucked up in bed, dog within sight yet
Timewise it's a compromise, life just flashes before our eyes.
No day will ever be the same again.
We worship time yet it shows no respect
It tramps on our plans, shattering our spirit,
As it takes matters into its own steady hands
The seconds, minutes, hours you thought you had
Stolen by a thief we all know so well
We say time is on our side but the sand is running out
Is it better to watch it drain slowly away
Or be shocked as it comes to a sudden stop?
Time controls those rainy days
Steals the sunshine and strikes you
With a thunderbolt to the heart
The best of all thieves he takes in the night
Takes in broad daylight
Takes the young, old, rich and poor
We can't get back what's been stolen
So secure your locks, make your plans
Enjoy every minute before the hands take the sand
He's greedy is time
He'll take yours and mine
