Heyo, human beings from outer space!
First of all, I can't stop writing about Caleb and Ahsoka, and second of all, I will probably start experiencing violent withdrawal symptoms if I write any less angst.
This was requested over on ao3 and it's longer than I thought it would be so you're welcome :D
Read on if you dare.
This. Wasn't. Fair.
Caleb Dume hadn't been there for Ahsoka's trial, but he didn't need to be. He'd heard plenty. And Caleb was sure he'd never been angrier.
It wasn't the Jedi way— he knew he was supposed to keep his emotions under check— but was it really the Jedi way to expel one of their own without enough investigation? Caleb would say no. And he couldn't let himself sit there and watch.
Caleb liked to think of himself as Ahsoka's best friend— at least one of a few. He'd looked up to her from the moment he'd met her, so it was an honor when she chose him, out of so many others, to be her friend.
So how could he possibly sit by and watch the Jedi toss her out like the scum of the galaxy? He simply couldn't.
And since no one else but Ahsoka's Master seemed to be trying to do anything about it (not even Depa argued), it was up to Caleb to take things into his own hands. The only problem was that Caleb didn't know what he was doing.
He was sat on his bunk in the padawan quarters for the zillionth time that day, working on his datapad to decide how to approach this smartly. He didn't care if he was punished, but he still wanted to be wise about it.
"What's up with you?" Tonnik, a red skinned boy, asked as he dangled from the top bunk by the insides of his knees. "You've been glaring at your datapad all day."
"I'm just trying to figure out some way to fight back for Ahsoka."
Tonnik nearly fell off the bunk in his haste to get down. "Ahsoka Tano? Skywalker's criminal of a padawan?!"
"She's not a criminal," Caleb snapped. "She's my friend, and she's wrongly accused."
"But the council—"
"Makes mistakes," Caleb interjected. "You've heard about Ahsoka, haven't you? She's not the kind of person to do something like that, it doesn't make any sense."
Tonnik thinks for a moment. "I guess not, but I don't want to get in trouble."
"Then this isn't for you. I'm sure protesting for Ahsoka will get us a bit in trouble."
"You're protesting for Ahsoka?!"
The voice is loud enough to hush the whole chattering padawan quarters. Caleb's instinct is to shrink back, but instead he forces his chin up and says. "Yes. She doesn't deserve any of this."
The purple Twi-lek girl, who had been the one to shout, shuffles forwards. "I'm in."
"R-really?"
"Yeah. Ahsoka saved my life and my master's life. I don't think she'd just turn around and explode half the temple," the girl says. "I'm Araeh. You are?"
"Caleb. And thanks."
"Yeah. So what's the plan?"
This time, Caleb can't stop his eyes from dropping. "I'm... still trying to figure that out."
"We can help!"
"We?"
"I know a lot of people who will side with Ahsoka. She's done a lot... you know?" Araeh said, hopping up. "I can go gather them. Where can we meet?"
