Chapter 8

( Evelyn Pov )

As I got off the bus, I went to the cafe where me and Kaya work. I put on my apron and started serving customers.

"Hello, welcome to HJ's cafe. What would you like to order?" I asked the girl.

"Cookies and cream please, medium," the girl said and added "Aren't you Evelyn O'Brien? OMG, I'm a big fan" Well, I am pretty famous because of my brother, and I post a lot on Instagram. I also have TikTok but I don't post too much.

"Yes, I am her" I said.

"Omg, can I have a picture?" the girl asked. We took a picture together, and I started making her drink. After I finished, I handed it to her.

"Here you go," I said.

"Thank you, you're so pretty," the girl said.

"Aw, thank you, have a nice day!" I replied as she left the cafe. Thirty minutes later, I finished my shift and checked the time. It was 2:56. I texted Dylan that I would be late because I have to go shopping. He said okay and reminded me to be home before 6PM. As I walk on the sidewalk in NYC, I felt like I was being followed. I was so uncomfortable that I went inside the mall to be safe. I bought food, clothes, and ate. At 4:30, I decided to go home, but it was raining. I didn't have an umbrella with me.

"I can just buy an umbrella," I said to myself. But the mall was already starting to close. I sprinted to the dollar store, but it was closed. I texted Dylan, but my phone suddenly died. I had forgotten to charge it this morning. I asked one of the security guards to borrow their phone so I could call my brother, but they said they weren't allowed. They just gave me an extra umbrella. I said thank you and headed outside. It was raining so hard, and it was dark. As I walk on the sidewalk, I started to get wet because of the rain. I saw a man following me. I was scared and couldn't find any taxis, so I decided to walk. But I forgot the was. Then suddenly the man started to get closer, I got scared my heart was beating so fast, I was nervous...

( Dylan Pov )

I started to get worried about Evelyn. It was raining hard outside, and It was dark.

"Where's Evelyn?" Thomas asked.

"I don't know. She's supposed to back by now," I said, trying to call her, but she wasn't answering. We were so worried.

"Have you tried calling her?" Thomas asked with a worried face.

"Yeah, but she's not answer," I said, putting my hand on my head.

"Her phone probably died," Thomas said.

"Probably," I replied. It was already 6:30, but Evelyn wasn't home yet. I called James, and he said he didn't know where she was. We called the cafe where Evelyn was working.

"Hi, this is Dylan, Evelyn's brother. By any chances, do you know where Evelyn is?" I asked.

"Hello, sir. Evelyn already left the cafe 5 hours ago. She had a shift from 9am to 2pm. Sorry" the manager said.

"Okay, thank you," I said. "They said Evelyn already left 5 hours ago," I told Thomas.

"We should find her. The rain has slowed down," Thomas said. We got in the car and drove off to Central park. I turned on the radio in my car.

"A girl was murdered in Central park, found dead in a dark alley by the mall," the reporter said. I looked at Thomas, and he looked at me. We both had a worried expressions. I started to drive faster, but the wet streets slowed us down. As we approached the park, my heart pounded with fear and urgency. We needed to find Evelyn before something terrible happen.
