Missy's POV
I had spent the whole day on Sunday thinking about what Lynn had said about speaking to the school's guidance counselor about my dark thoughts.
So here I was on Monday, standing in front of the guidance counselor's office.
"You can do it," I heard Lynn say from behind me, causing me to jump a bit.
"Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
"It's fine. I just—-" "I don't know. Have you ever been to therapy?"
"No but therapy's dope! A friend of mine goes and it works for him so why not?" She said.
I reluctantly looked at her. "Hey. It'll be okay. Trust me. I'll be here waiting for you when you're done if you want."
"Really?" I asked.
"Yeah."
I still didn't move. Lynn knocked on the door and I tried to make a run for it but she held me in place.
The door opened and the school counselor, Miss Rodriquez opened the door.
"Hola chicas. How can I help you?"
"Well my friend here needs to talk to you about something private," Lynn said.
"Welcome. Welcome. This is a safe space," she said.
I looked back at Lynn who gave me a reassuring smile, her dimples showing.
********
True to her word, Lynn was leaning against the wall next to the door when I was done with Miss Rodriquez.
It made me smile.
"So how was it?" "A lot. I didn't expect to cry. That's for sure," I said.
"Did you skip class? No I went to English. I should be having History but it's boring so I don't mind skipping it."
I laughed.
I checked my phone. I would have an hour left of Spanish but I wasn't feeling it so I decided to just chill in the gymnasium with Lynn.
She dribbled the basketball, making free throws while I watched.
She always looked so focused when she was in sport mode.
It was actually nice to watch.
I found myself taking in her physique.
She wasn't overly muscular but she definitely had muscles. They showed through her long sleeved navy blue shirt whenever she threw the ball.
I got my phone and started taking pictures of her. I told myself that it was for the project but it might have been for another reason too.
"Hey come shoot some hoops with me," Lynn said suddenly.
I stopped taking pictures. "What makes you think I can play basketball?"
"I don't know but just give it a try."
I smirked. "Okay but if I do you have to do a cheer routine with me."
Lynn rolled her eyes. "Fine now come on before this period's over. We can't skip two classes."
