Trent's POV

I am exhausted but I don't care. My Phoenix has been up all night vomiting. My poor baby. I hate seeing her like this. At the moment, she's just finished brushing her teeth and I'm bringing her a bowl of broth to see if she can keep anything down. "How's my Sweetheart?" I say to her, brushing the hair back from her face after placing the bowl on her bedside table. She spits out the toothpaste into the sink and tries to give me a little smile. Adorable. "Tummy still hurt?" I ask.

"Yeah. I'm so sorry. I don't mean to be more of a burden." she says while holding her stomach tightly. Her posture is slouched down somewhat. I can tell that the stomach cramps are really bothering her.

"Phoenix, don't go there. I love taking care of you Baby. Come on. I'm going to help you get into bed. My family doctor is coming over in a few to check on you." I say while guiding her back to the bed.

"No. Please, don't go to all the trouble. I probably just ate something bad. I've had food poisoning a few times before and it's no big deal. I'll probably be better by tomorrow." she said. My girl is so fuckin' strong but she needs to understand that she no longer has to be that way. She can lay back and let someone else take care of her for once in her life. I tell her as much.

"Look, I know you are used to taking care of yourself and everyone else around you, but you have us now. Please trust us to take care of you properly and let us. Don't take that away from us, please." I love this woman more than any person I have ever known. I am not above begging to ensure she is happy.

"Ok" she replies quiet and snuggles back down into the bed. Just then I hear a knock on the door.

"Baby, I'll be right back." I kiss her on her forehead and she hums in recognition. I walk to the front door and greet Dr. Matthews. "Hey Doc. How ya been?" I say as I shake his hand. He's been a friend of mine since high school and I trust him completely. We nicknamed him "Doc" back in high school. He always knew that that was the direction his life was taking him and he's excelled every step of the way. He's one of the highest recognized family physicians in the state. I'm damn proud of him.

"Hey T. I'm good but I hear your girl is not so much, eh?" He replies stepping in the living room.

"Not really, no. She's been vomiting since yesterday afternoon and I can't seem to get her settled at all. She even throws up water." I explain.

"That's not good. We need to be sure she doesn't get dehydrated. It's a good thing I came prepared." He smiled at me gently. "I brought some supplies and a few IV bags if this was the case. Let me go up and check on her and then we'll know more." I nodded and guided him up to her room.

"Phoenix." I said gently. "Baby, this is Dr. Jake Matthews. Do you mind if he takes a look at you to see about getting you well?" I asked her, stroking her hair on the top of her head. She nodded weakly and Doc got to work.

"Is it possible you could be pregnant?"  He asked and she shook her head.

"No.  I just got off my period a couple of days ago, so I highly doubt that this could be from that." She replied.

"Ok.  We'll double check a little later.  Can you tell me if you ate anything that tasted funny yesterday?" Doc asked Phoenix after checking her vitals.

"Um, well, yesterday when I was at Grant's office, Daisy ordered food to be delivered for lunch. It had a weird bitter taste but I didn't want to say anything and hurt her feelings after going to so much trouble, so I just ate it and tried to wash down the flavor with soda." She replied. I look to Doc to see if he has any reaction to her words. He's straight faced, so I simply just continue to listen.
